As I mentioned, please, please, don't watch The Preacher's Wife. They absolutely ruined it.I saw that there was a remake with Denzel Washington. I'll have to check that one out sometime.

The remake, with Denzel Washington and the late Whitney Houston was not very good. 'Mostly, just showcasing Whitney's singing voice and Denzel's looks (ending with his signature swagger, no less).I just remember it left me feeling very empty. There's absolutely nothing in it about the true meaning of Christmas. Might as well call it White XMas. No tale of self sacrifice like It's a Wonderful Life, or of repentance and a changed life like A Christmas Carol.
I don't even remember the sisters comedy routine,. I do remember the song "Sisters," a catchy song, quite entertaining. Probably if it wasn't about Christmas, I would have liked it more.
We did watch The Bishop's Wife on Saturday, based on comments here. Pretty good movie. A little strange at times, but really enjoyed it. I saw that there was a remake with Denzel Washington. I'll have to check that one out sometime.
There are tons of Christmas movies without the true meaning. Just some that show things that happen at Christmas time. Just a thought. There's absolutely nothing in it about the true meaning of Christmas.
Oh, and just for fun, here's the sisters routine. They guys went on to act for the sisters as they were trying to escape a trumped up charge.
LOL I totally agree! And there some "die hards" that will argue it IS a Christmas movie! After years of hearing about Die Hard I was able to overlook the language and watch it once, but I wouldn't want to watch it again because of the language. Very good movie, but I wasn't thinking of it as a Christmas movie...
Very True, Lynn. There are tons of Christmas movies without the true meaning. Just some that show things that happen at Christmas time. Just a thought.![]()
Lol. I listened to a fierce debate on the radio about Diehard being a Christmas movie. While you were sleeping is def an annual fav for us.View attachment 15349
But besides this "obvious" choice, here are my other favorites:
It's a Wonderful Life - Pretty much perfection.
While You Were Sleeping - YEAH, that's a Christmas movie!
A Charlie Brown Christmas - just isn't Christmas without this gem and Linus explaining the true meaning of Christmas.
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas - another childhood classic.
The Little Drummer Boy - loved this one as a kid.
The Small One - an often overlooked Disney classic.
A Christmas Carol - 1951 version, if I had to pick. But I think this story has been done too many times.
FLASHBACK!A warning to all on this post thread...my oldest son, who is a diehard Star Wars fan, convinced us to try watching the Star Wars Christmas movie, made in the late 70s or early 80s.
I understand that all forms of therapy have failed to heal people of this awful experience. But it was horrible! Horrible I tell ya! We still haven't made it through it after several years of trying. I would rather watch White Christmas while having my tongue sanded.
LOL. Of course they're not.Movies that are NOT and NEVER WILL BE a Christmas movie:
Die Hard
Die Hard 2
