What Are the Best Things You'd Like People to Know About Yourself?

I've thought about this a lot.

Different people know me from different places, different roles. My work friends know me as a technical writer, my online friends know me as a fan of Sci-Fi or Fantasy or detective stories. Those closest to me know me as a husband, a father, a happy-go-lucky friend.

But more than anything else, I think I'd like people to know that I am a Godly man. Everything else should be secondary to that.

Yesterday, I was ordained as a deacon in our small non-denominational community church. It's a role I've been doing already for many years behind the scenes.

Yesterday, they made it official.

It felt strange.
It felt good.
It felt right.

Now to answer my own question. The best things I'd like people to know about myself, would be my writings. A very large amount of them, are posted on the website Writing.com. There I use the penname Yesmrbill. If anyone would like to check them out, go to:

Awesome, Johne! So glad you posted the picture. So good to see. :D And yes, I know you for sure first as a Godly man! 👍 🥰
 
Best things? I'm always me. What you see is what you get! I can think of fun things you wouldn't know about me:

*Was chosen (when 17) to kiss Tony Curtis in the opening scene of the movie The Great Race but the crew couldn't find me.
*Pitted next to Steve McQueen at a race (hubs raced)
*Stood next to Paul Newman to watch a race / both he and hubs were in (different classes)
*Been with hubs to race at 24 hours of Daytona and Sebring
*Kicked Roger Penske in the shin...accidentally, of course
*In the company of Mario Andretti, Carroll Shelby, and many others
*Grew up on a large farm in a historical home where presidents and others had visited, which is now a country club
*Met Billy Graham when I was 10 (parents and grandparents held a reception for him in that home) and got saved in his renowned NYC crusade in 1957
*Am a great cook and make a mean BBQ sauce
*Am crafty and creative
*Had my writings (and memes) go around the world
*And all of that means diddly-squat if I'm not known as being a Godly woman!!! ;)

I glanced through them, William! You have some interesting stuff. I read "Johnny's Little Pistol" and really liked it. Reminds me of when I tried writing my own take on Lincoln's assassination several years ago.

Lynn, wow! What a colorful, blessed life you've led! Such amazing little tidbits of what I'm guessing are incredible stories each their own. As the cinema buff here, those first three of course blew my mind.
 
Okay, this is really the only one I can think of that I'm genuinely proud of.

When I was 16, during one of my many community plays, I delivered a tragic three-page-long monologue as a woman whose father was dying of Alzheimer's disease. Shortly after the director cast me, she admitted that if she didn't find the right person during auditions, she was considering cutting the character and scene entirely. That felt like an honor to me; she was a director I'd worked with a few times before and she apparently had had me in mind hoping I'd try out for it. I worked so hard to memorize that monologue, and after the show I had several people (including my OWN father) tell me that I brought them to tears.
 
Well, I do have a penchant for bumping into well-known folks. Arriving at ground level in a Madrid hotel elevator, a weary-looking Tony Curtis meandered into the elevator as I walked out. Over the phone, I talked to insurance holder-Coach Tom Landry and a distant relative of Tchaikovsky (dropped the T on his last name).

In that same job, the funniest thing occurred when an agent called in with one of his policyholders. After the owner passed my security questions, the agent talked the client’s concerns, but kept exclaiming, “After all, she’s Jane Powell!” During that lengthy call, she would get around the “afteralls” with some of her own questions, then softly giggle as I casually responded. When we all hung up, I muttered to myself, “Yeah buddy, after”—then it struck me that here was the lady whom my two very musical daughters adored, from their multiple viewings of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”! At least Jane found amusement that she could enjoy a moment of anonymity.

I’ve also talked with Lee Greenwood, a daughter of Jane Russell (what is it with the Janes?), and the founder of Shakey’s Pizza (who effusively expressed his relief at having sold off the business).

In my lifetime, I've "bumped" into, approximately, 30 plus well-known people. But, it was, mainly, because I was a receptionist at one of the largest television stations in Minnesota. Also, their radio station was near my desk. I would make coffee, greet them, and get back to work. ;)
