You gave me a M.A.S.H. flashback to when Klinger took a note into Colonel Blake, who proceeded to read several letters from home including one that said, "Half of the family pregnant, the other half dying."

Oh my! Now that WOULD be a lot on his plate. But Joanna is sixteen, not that kind of girl, and that sort of behavior has already had a certain impact on her life - behavior perpetrated by someone other than her. So yeah, you actually hit a little too close to home, but it would involve a different character.
