Just a few days ago…
…lying in bed, recovering from the worst of a very rough flu strain, I realized more than ever how that knowing the Word for strength is very powerful.
I thought about listening to an audio Bible, but I lacked the mental energy to focus, more so just trying to read. As I lie still, I tried to visualize the words from verses about healing that I have memorized. I was too much in a fog to do even that.
What I could remember without much effort was a list of scripture citations. As I silently lipped the first one, “Luke 17:12-14”, the corresponding words came forth as well. I didn’t have to think the words. Like a sort of muscle memory, they just came out, as long as I had a scintilla of lip movement, even if it was just quivering them. At times it seemed like someone (indeed!) talking simultaneously to me. That was a real mercy. At the end of that passage, “Acts 3:2-8” popped in. Then, I was able to lip another set of words.
At times, I would doze off, but on coming to, I had enough recall to pick up where I left off. This proceeded for about half of the day, through 27 passages.
“For they [the Lord’s words] are life to all who find them, and health to all their flesh” (Proverbs 4:22 NKJV).
One understanding I have drawn from this consoling time with the Father is how well-memorized verses, by the power of the Holy Spirit, become activated to speak to us (“deep calls unto deep”) if we but turn our hearts toward our God and silently move our lips.
