Would you tell your friends if their lives were in danger?
How about their souls?
You know which friends I’m talking about, the ones who have been down lately, the ones who have expressed angst over their directionless life. The ones who used to be a joy to be around but are now most unpleasant.
The Bible is such a resource for living that it specializes in providing the maps necessary to navigate life. Just think, there is a section of the Bible, called the Roman Road, showing the directions, with all of the potholes, and where to turn to arrive at the end God wants for you.
These Scriptures don’t have to be folded perfectly nor do they require electrical power to safely guide you.
Romans 3:23, says “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Here is our starting place, it is accurate, firm, and provides a foundation for our travels.
This starting point may seem unfair, unbelievable, or inaccurate but ask yourself if it were not true, would the world be in the shape it is? See, a starting place of clarity.
Once we admit to our starting place, the Bible gives us a picture of the end of the trip that could be. The facts of our condition and the love of God are shown in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
On your birthday you may celebrate with family and friends. It usually involves a gathering for food and drink, sometimes singing. It often involves gifts being given to you. You would not think about discarding a gift given out of love by those in attendance, but there are people who discard the gift of eternal life that God gives.
If Christians are wrong about eternal life, oh well. But if non-believers are wrong about no eternal life…
Romans 5:8, “But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us!” When we believe, this blessing is life-changing. We don’t even have to earn God’s love and His gift of Jesus. How many people do you know that will love you unequivocally even though you have not treated them well? How many people would even give you the time of day if you had abused your relationship with them? Exactly.
Walking in the will of God means recognizing your condition. It means understanding the love God has for His creation and it means what Romans 10:9 explains. “If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
There it is.
It is that simple.
Romans 10:10 goes on to say, “With the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation.” Believing in God and confessing your sinful nature are basic directions on this trip.
Your destination, so much better than the directionless wanderings of those in love with this world, is nothing less than heaven above. Don’t you think that your friends who are struggling with depression, lack of purpose, and anger would love to have a future full of joy?
Romans 10:13, “for whoever shall call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
What could be more important for you and your soul? What can be more important for the friends you love?
Talk to someone today about this Roman Road, tell them about the joy that you have.
