The Bible states that the Earth and all life were created in six days (Genesis 1), while science supports the theory of evolution and the Big Bang. Understanding the difference between these two views can be quite complex.

My question is:
  1. Can Creation and Evolution be reconciled together?
  2. Can the Bible's Creation story be understood symbolically, while still accepting scientific theories?
  3. Does accepting the theory of evolution conflict with the core beliefs of Christianity?

Sometimes I wonder if there is a struggle between the heart, the mind, and the thoughts of science, each with its own perspective

My personal belief is that God allowed for micro evolution (existing species adapting to their environment). However, I don't believe in macro evolution (one species becoming another species over time). I also don't believe the fossil record supports macro evolution. Species stay within their kind and don't become other species.

The thing to remember about science is for the most part, it's never fully settled. Our understanding of the world around us is constantly evolving (no pun intended. :D). For example, not too long ago, using leeches to rid people of, "bad blood," was still considered cutting-edge medical treatment. Things that seem ridiculous to us now were unquestioned back then. A hundred years from now, many things we consider fact will be laughable to future audiences.

I don't believe science and faith are in opposition to one another. To me, proof of God is found in the order and logic of the universe. Even looking at our own bodies, with the various systems all working in unison and interdependent on one another, shows the miracle of creation. There's no conceivable way that sort of intricacy happened by random chance, even over millions of years. God's signature is all around and within us. :)

Write in the community setting of the species, showing the fantastic changes of color; And thoughts, feelings and struggles of the differences. But also, to my understanding, adapting to the environment tends to be on the basis of loss.

Funny you ask this question, as I'm currently writing a book on the subject.

First, one must clarify if you are talking about science or evolutionism. Science is often imperfect, but still a very interesting subject. Evolutionism is not science, but a repeatedly disproven hypothesis (even the title 'theory' is inaccurate, though they continue to use it) that is ultimately a religion.
Want proof? I've heard it said that the mark of religion is that people are willing to kill and/or die for religion.
Hitler was a follower of evolutionism and believed that the Arians were more highly evolved, and therefore, other 'lesser evolved' peoples should be eliminated for the betterment of mankind. Survival of the fittest. So he killed millions of people who he believed were 'lesser evolved.' Many other tragic events have been rooted in the dangerous ideology of evolutionism.

Even some evolutionist scientists have admitted that the only real reason they accept evolutionism is because it excuse them from believing in a God who owns the world and made rules about how we should live. Evolutionism says you are your own 'god' and can make your own rules. The Bible says God makes the rules and has the power to judge the world.

So, about your question.

No, there is no reconciliation or compromise for the pagan religion of evolutionism which teaches that the strong ought to kill the weak and the Good News of the Gospel.

Yes, science and the Bible can get along very well, when it is true science. In fact, some scientific discoveries have been made with the help of the Bible. Many of the great scientists and inventors were devote Christians. Evolution can't claim so much.

If you would like to look into some of the scientists who are proving that science really does agree with the Bible over evolution, I'd recommend Ken Ham at Answers in Genesis and Dr. Kent Hovind. Warning, Dr. Dino (Kent Hovind) is... not the most polite in regards to people who disagree with him, but he really explains a lot of the Creation science stuff.

As for the conflicts of compromising theories attempting to blend Christianity and evolutionism, I'm currently writing a book about the implications of that. Yes, I believe that is a huge problem.

Some of the theories do sound very intriguing and often use fascinating Scriptures to sound believable, but they really go wacko when you start to compare them to key Christian doctrine.

It is really frustrating how the TV and everything else keeps screaming 'millions and billions of years ago' even when it has been disproven over and over again. Indeed, it has put Christians in a very difficult place to combat such lies. Some people are trying to get that nonsense out of schools and such, but it is hard to fight against such a powerful and deeply rooted religion. Thus, there are main people who are struggling with the issue.

There is some scholarly discussion about whether those are a literal six days (which God is completely capable of pulling off) or more descriptive, six 'ages'. My reading of Genesis isn't affected either way and the larger point of the book remains intact.

God created the heavens and the earth.
We just don't know how.
There can be no discord between the creation and its creator.
The conflict is only in our minds,
between strongly-held theological beliefs,
and strongly-held beliefs about nature.

It doesn't bother me if "yom" is a 24-hour day, or an epoch. Conversations about HOW God created things are interesting and fun, but not threatening to my belief in God.

How long would a plant last if you stuffed it in a dark closet with no sun? A day? No problem. A couple days with no bugs to pollinate? No problem. Thousands of years with no sun and no bugs? That starts to be a problem. If they were somehow able to live with no sun, the sudden introduction of the sun would kill them.

Plus, there are lots of scientific proofs for a much younger earth. Moon distances, Magnetic field strength, speed of earth's rotation, size of the sun, etc.

Some of those theories sound cool, but really start to struggle when you really check into how they work.

Studying Biblical history is a really fascinating subject, in my opinion. So many random connection you never realized were there. For example, Boaz, who married Ruth, was the son of Rehab of Jericho.
