How do most artists here get art jobs? Do you have an agent or do you go the freelance route? I have been told that I have talent, but I don't know how to get art assignments. Thanks for any info.

Try freelance exchanges. For example upwork or fiver. There are a lot of customers there.

Yes, fiverr is a good idea. Also, if you're on social media, probably Facebook would be best, you can share your work and develop relationships there. However, it does take time.
