I wrote this poem kinda like a summary of the greatest and most friendships my protagonist the exiled prince will have in my story. It is a sad but a wonderful tale I pray will be a pinnacle theme of Christlike love in my story. This poem came to be by accident as I was trying to map out their relationship and the ultimate deciding moment scene. I tried free verse style but it just did not seem to fit or sit right with me for this one.
Bound by Honor, Freed by Love
In a land of exile, far from home and throne,
A prince wanders, his heart heavy as stone.
Once a ruler, now a man cast aside,
His soul aches for love, a longing he can't hide.
But fate, it seems, has a different plan,
For in this foreign land, he meets a princess grand.
Her beauty, like the sun, shines bright and clear,
Her heart, so pure, it chases away his fear.
The prince, he falls, deep in love's sweet spell,
But doubts, like shadows, in his mind do dwell.
For he, a man with a tarnished past,
Believes he's unworthy, his sins too vast.
The princess, she sees beyond his scars,
A man of honor, with a heart like the stars.
She reaches out, her love a gentle touch,
To heal the wounds that pain him, oh so much.
But the prince, he cannot accept her grace,
He turns away, with anguish on his face.
His eyes, they speak of truths unseen,
Of a past that haunts, a soul unclean.
Memories flood, of blood and strife,
Of innocent lives lost, a haunted life.
The prince, he trembles, his voice a whisper,
"I am not the man you think, my lady, my sister."
"The screams of the fallen echo in my mind,
Their faces, their pain, a fate unkind.
I am not worthy of your love so pure,
For my sins, there can be no cure."
"No cure on earth, except the Lord of the Stars,
Who guides my path and my heart, from afar.
He knows my sins, my deepest regrets,
My faith tells me, my time is not here yet."
The prince, he looks upon her face,
A vision of beauty, of love and grace.
"How can a man, with a soul so dark,
Be worthy of you, a shining lark?"
"Your eyes, they sparkle like the night sky,
Your smile, a balm for a heart that's dry.
Your voice, a melody, a soothing breeze,
Your presence, a gift, a moment's ease."
"You are a dream, a hope beyond compare,
A queen of old, with wisdom rare.
A soul so pure, a heart so true,
I am not worthy, this much I know."
The prince, he falls to his knees, head bowed,
His heart, it aches, his thoughts, a cloud.
The princess, she kneels, her hand on his face,
"My prince," she whispers, "there is no disgrace."
"I see the goodness in your heart,
The light that shines, even in the dark.
Your sins, your errors, they do not define,
The man you are, the soul that's thine."
The prince, he looks up, his eyes filled with tears,
"I am a warrior, a sword for your fears.
I'll protect and serve, be your faithful knight,
But my heart, my love, I cannot give, not quite."
"For I am not worthy, my soul, it bleeds,
From the weight of my past, the lives I've seized.
But I will be your guardian, your friend so true,
I'll stand beside you, in all you do."
The princess, she listens, her heart, it cries,
For the prince, his pain, his haunted eyes.
"Then be my knight, my protector and guide,
I'll love you still, with all my heart, I'll abide."
And so, they stand, a princess and her knight,
Their bond, unbreakable, a love so bright.
Though fate may keep them from a lover's embrace,
Their hearts, entwined, shall never be replaced.
The prince, he serves, with a heart so true,
His love for her, a secret, a hidden hue.
A knight, a guardian, a soul forever bound,
To the princess, his heart, a love profound.
As time goes by, the prince remains at her side,
A faithful retainer, a friend to confide.
His love for her, a flame that never dies,
A love that serves, a love that never flies.
He vows to keep her safe, to be her guard,
Until the day, he can give her hand, unmarred.
To a man more worthy, a man of grace,
A man who'll love her, in his place.
The princess, she knows, his love so deep,
A love that's pure, a love to keep.
She cherishes his friendship, his loyalty,
A bond that lasts, for eternity.
She glances to the Lord of all above,
Finding comfort in His eternal love.
She knows the Lord holds her prince's heart,
Safe and secure, never to depart.
She vows to pray, each and every day,
For her prince to find love, in every way.
A love he deserves, a love so true,
A love that she, herself, couldn't pursue.
And so, they stand, a princess and her knight,
A love that's true, a love that's right.
A love that serves, a love that's strong,
A love that lasts, a lifetime long.
