Recovery is a Work of Grace

'but He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me. '

2 Corinthians 12:9

Have you ever thought that your addiction could be part of God's divine plan for your life? I am not suggesting that God makes people addicts by saying this. I am suggesting that God allows us to experience the Hell that is the life of an addict, as a means of bringing us to The Lord, and ultimately as a means for Him to be glorified thru the process of recovery that he enables. This divine enablement is something we should be familiar with at this point, it is His Grace! His Grace is sufficient, in all situations, for all things at all times! How incredible is this knowledge, how wonderful it is to know this! Paul had a similar situation in his life. He was afflicted by something, we do not know what, but it was real, and it was something that we in full view of everyone. It was something that kept him humble, that caused him physical weakness, and was something that only found its remedy in Divine help, The Grace of Christ Jesus! So it also goes for us in recovery. We have a physical ailment, that manifests itself clearly to the world (even if we do not see it because of the fog on denial). If we are honest with ourselves, and we are truly seeking to recover our lives, our path to victory is the road to the cross. We cannot grab the victors crown in our own strength, we have seen ourselves fall flat on our faces to many times, we have come up short every time we felt the foolish courage to say in our hearts "we got this, we don't need His help!", and we made a mess of things in doing so. We can do nothing apart from The Vine, from Christ who strengthens, who empowers, who prunes, and brings about the increase in due season, the fruit of righteousness, the gift of sobriety, all flow from the fountainhead of Grace. Receive it, believe it, and walk in it! Your victory is His victory, he has already given it to you, when you received Him, you received the gift. It is the truth you Know that sets you free, and now you know it! Pray that God will show you how live what you know, be what you believe, to be a doer and not just a hearer. In Christ Name, Amen!

I am writing a Book for those in addiction recovery, this is one of the devotionals I am including in the Book. I would love feedback, suggestions, any input is acceptable! Thanks for reading!

Thank you for sharing this powerful devotional. As James 1:2 says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds." This divine enablement is a manifestation of His Grace, which is always sufficient in all situations. Just as Paul experienced an affliction that kept him humble and reliant on divine help, we too have our own struggles that drive us to seek God's grace. In recovery, the Twelve Steps emphasize finding a higher power, which aligns with the truth that true change only happens through God.
Having worked with people in addiction recovery, I've seen firsthand that transformation is only possible through the strength and grace of Christ. We cannot achieve victory on our own; it is only through Christ who strengthens, empowers, and brings about true healing. Your victory is His victory, as He has already given it to you through His grace. We have to embrace it, believe it, and walk in it. Your message will undoubtedly resonate with many in recovery, offering them hope and a clear path forward. Thank you for sharing your heart and wisdom!
