United in Christ and With Christ
This part of the story is where we find the complete picture. If you are a follower of Christ, if you have surrendered your life and your will to Him, and you are now saved, congratulations! We hope to recover from our addiction(s), and we need Grace to do it. How does this happen? What I am going to attempt to do is demonstrate and explain how this happens. The first thing we need to see his how Jesus was both fully human, and fully God. His divine nature and His human nature were perfectly joined, united, to one another. This is how Jesus was able to perform his miracles, because His deity was united to his human nature. This was his divine empowerment. Now this unity is an archetype, a shadow if you will, for the same mystical union we enjoy as his people. We are also united to Christ in a similar way that he was united to his Deity. In fact if we are in Him in this way, we are also united together and with each other in Him also! This is why we are called to love one another, because we are all united together in Him, and as He said the world will know we are his by the way we love one another, because we are all united to together in Him, with Him and with each other.
So what does any of this have to do with recovery? It has everything to do with it! It is through this mysterious divine unity with Him, we are empowered to live the Life of a Christian. This unity is the source of our divine enablement, as his spirit lives now in us, as we are now the temple for the Holy Spirit. So when Paul spoke that He can do all things thru Christ who strengthens him, He strengthens from within because he is within. We need this divine unity, so we can recover! This is how it happens. Our Unity to Him becomes the source for our hope and strength, our Higher Power is a power that lives within us, and because of this we can rely on this as we move and breath and live in Him. This is a mystery, and it is a wonderful mystery. Jesus said he was the vine, and we are the branches, and we must abide in him as he abides in us. He said we can do nothing on our own, apart from him, when we try to we fall short. Much of what we learn as we are following Him, is how to tap into this source of strength. This is a liberating thing to know, and as we must understand the truth we know is the truth that set us free. This is why it is essential in our recovery to study His Word so we can know for ourselves the truth. This Unity with God in Christ is a privilege and is also a gracious gift. We become children of God through this union, we receive the Righteousness of Christ through this union, and we share in his death and resurrection unto eternal as a result of this union. It is the essence of Christianity, and is what every follower of Christ enjoys and experiences. We will also recover our lives through this union, and this is why my book is called OG recovery. Our recovery is in God Alone, and Only God!
