And then there is all the movies about old cops shooting themselves because they can no longer do police work any more? You know the type of stories, 'He could no longer do blah blah so the poor bloke offed himself, ate his gun, hear taps blowing sweetly in the distance?

Where do they get that stuff at? I am no longer writing, yeah gittin up there, long in the tooth an all that rot.

I got off my motorcycle three years ago, advertised it for sale and sold it a couple days later, (after all the thing weighed in at around twelve hundred pounds!) never no more to ride. Now I do have a gun (don't everybody?) they say in the movies ' he ate his gun' and when I hear that I envision a tough old cob with buzz saw teeth feeding his shotgun in his mouth like those big machines that eat a whole tree, roots and all.

I am no longer writing stories. I'm perfectly happy to piddle around with the stuff I wrote 12 years ago. I piddle around with the trees I grew from scratch. Theres things I used to do now, and I'm happy to let it go into the dust bin of history. Jobs are a thing you do for a living young man/woman so quit fussin' about a career, it ain't who you are fer cryin' out loud!

Then when you slip past that time when they no longer call on you with 'Can't do without ya' Cause they done replaced you with a whipper snapper. The evenings will land softly and a deep sense of satisfaction and you can spend the time piddlin' with yer tulips.

Oh yeah, tears do come more easily seem like when I see a particular part of a movie or read some line that touches those tender places in the heart, but boy that don't mean you gotta go and eat your gun!

Be thankful to the good Lord that he allowed you to do all those things in life.

I know the feeling. My job was being slowly eliminated by new technology and I became frustrated and dissatisfied. My wife said I could retire last year (I did), and now I'll work on downsizing my half of the landscaping (the backyard - it's organized chaos). My body just can't keep up with the upkeep required. Although I'm thankful for the job which allowed me to provide for my family for over twenty-five years, I'm also thankful to be done.
