I received a call from our church office late this afternoon. Our pastor had been admitted to ICU at one of our local hospitals. We have not been told of a diagnosis. His wife has asked her daughter to come.

Pastor Rick Jones has been here since July of 2019. When they came, they did not know that the former pastor had been in the role of head pastor for a total of 20 years. A lot of or people were depressed about losing the former pastor. Then we had COVID. Pastor Rick did You Tube videos in lieu of Sunday services, He sent out DAILY messages through each week encouraging us. Each month, the church had "drive-thru" communion.

When he chose to protect our aging congregation, he ran the risk of our church having to close permanently. However, God and our congregation surprised him. Through two different COVID caused closing, people kept up paying their tithes.

One last thing: He preached yesterday,

Praying for pastor, family, friends, medical people, everyone involved.

It sounds like he became very much involved in keeping the church going during a very difficult time.
 
Our church disaffiliated from our old denomination and joined a newly formed denomination. I heard yesterday afternoon that the presiding elder (district superintendent) of our area has already made arrangements for an interim pastor for our church. (I am impressed with the speed that this lady worked.) Several of us know his name and have started praying for him. His first Sunday is February 11th. A gentleman from our congregation volunteered to bring a message this Sunday.

UPDATE: Pastor's wife, Cheryl received a call from someone working for the rehab facility she would like to have Pastor Rick in. If they can wait until Friday or Saturday, that rehab center will take him. What is neat about this is the young woman said her heart told her to have the center accept him. We all know who placed that message on her heart. PRAISE THE LORD!
 
QS, I'm so sorry about the stroke. Praying for his complete recovery to health. So glad the empty space has been filled so quickly. And praise the Lord for placing him in the rehab center. 🙏
 
UPDATE: I received a text message from Pastor Rick's wife. He had been scheduled to be transferred to another hospital for rehab. NOW, they are planning to look at the inside of his head and possibly clean out the blood and the blood clot. They are waiting to see if he needs neurosurgery. (brain surgery,)

As I see it, this is a definite set-back for them. Please ramp up your prayers for them. I thank you in advance.
 
UPDATE: Pastor Rick now has blood clots in his lungs. There was one procedure that they were going to do but he had to be on blood thinners. He can't have blood thinners because that would cause issues with the blood in his brain, The doctor told Cheryl, his wife, that they were "Between a rock and a hard place". He has been in the ICU two times. I am not sure if he still might be in there as I write. He has been in the hospital for 16 days.

In my entire Christian life, I have never gone through anything like this. We will have Ash Wednesday service tomorrow night and then a prayer circle after that.

My word for the year is TRUST. I am getting lessons every day in trusting God.
