Devotional Knowing God

I have come to know by revelation of the Holy Spirit, just what it means to know God. To know God is to know His heart and mind.

The Lord desires that we know Him intimately, not by what we have been taught or heard through others. I believe that there are many who know of God, but don't really have a personal relationship with Him.

As I stated before, through what the Holy Spirit has shown me, that intimacy is when we become one with Him in spirit. We begin to take on His nature, and we begin to think like Him.

Our relationship with Him is a marriage, where we are joined to Him and become one Spirit. I am reminded when Jesus said, "I and the Father are one."

When we are talking to the Lord, we are sharing our heart and mind with Him, even though He already knows before we even express those things to Him. But, when we are reading His Word, He is revealing to us, His heart and mind.

It is the will of the Father that we have a mutual relationship with Him. That we love Him, as He loves us, and that we know Him, even as we are known.

This is how we form a relationship with our heavenly Father. I am learning how to have a dialogue with Him, not just doing all the talking, and never taking the time to be quiet, and give the Holy Spirit an opportunity to speak.

This is very challenging for me. I need more discipline in this area to say the least. I am laughing even now, because when I was in Elementary School every report card had the same comment, "Donna is very talkative."😂

Let me share how the Holy Spirit gave me the understanding by using the example of Moses, the man of God.

Moses knew God face to face, and had an intimate relationship with Him. The children of Israel knew the acts of God, but Moses knew His ways. It has always been the desire of the Father, that His children know Him, for He said in Isaiah 1:2-4: "Listen, O heavens! Pay attention, earth! This is what the LORD says: "The children I raised and cared for have rebelled against me. Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master's care, but Israel doesn't know its master. My people don't recognize my care for them. Oh, what a sinful nation they are, loaded down with a burden of guilt. They are evil people, corrupt children who have rejected the LORD. They have despised the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him." This passage is from the New Living Translation.

The Lord is saying here, My people don't know me. When I read this passage of Scripture, it was a turning point for me. It was at that moment that I made a decision that I wanted to know the Lord. He wants us to know Him for ourselves, he wants to speak to us in a personal way, and not just through a word of prophecy.

I believe that it is very important for leaders in the church to teach God's people how to hear Him for themselves, and not to depend on someone prophesying to them to know what God is saying concerning their individual lives and what His purpose is for them. It is a disservice to the body of Christ, not to teach us how to have a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit and to seek the will of the Father for ourselves.

Allow me to end with this,  we all want to know what our future looks like, but it's found in the Word of God. We must be careful that we are not conforming to the ways of the world, who seek after those with familiar spirits or what is known as the spirit of divination. Let's continue to seek to know the Lord!
