TL;DR: I have a clear goal I'm aiming at but struggling to get there. I'm hoping with Jesus, my family, coffee, and you I will get there. Currently in the writing stage of exploring my writing process. What about you?

Hello all, I just joined the forum today and I just wanted to jump right in! I am a wife and mother who eats meat and drinks coffee. My life mission is: "I live to help others break generational curses so that they can live abundant and God-honoring lives." I hope that my work demonstrates that Jesus paid the PRICE for us to Persevere, live in quality Relationships with others, find our Identity in Christ, remember that Christ's sacrifice covers our mistakes, and live Empowered by the Holy Spirit. I'm an aspiring author with many WIPs but no completed projects yet.

I have gotten to 20,000 words on multiple projects then they fell apart. Recently, I have 2 non-fiction books that I am working on. One is a devotional focused on the love of Christ. My main one is one that I am aiming to make 12 chapters or so that I am writing with an outline--and I am on chapter 6. I also have 2 main novels that I am exploring my writing process with for fiction. One is a space fantasy that I have dreamt about writing for probably close to 15 years. I am using Save the Cat! Writes a Novel to aid me in a structure for that story. The other is a Tolkien inspired fantasy that I am writing by hand at the request of my husband, and that is a strict discovery writing process that I write in much smaller increments. I am having fun exploring my writing process and genres. I sound so busy but in truth I have had these projects going on for a long time, and am working on building consistency in my writing schedule. Oh, and when I get stuck I write a sonnet for the sake of pushing myself forward--I love poetry!

I have been in other writing groups, but my main piece that I am working on right now is faith based and I've struggled with the reception of it in that group. This is my main piece that I am passionate about right now, and so it'd be nice to have people to communicate with about the project that can be excited with me.

What kind of projects do you have going? Anyone else have mission statements or a focus for their writing? Anyone have experience publishing? If so, are you mostly indie published, traditional, or mixed?

Welcome to the group, Demurebard! You've come to the right place. We're glad you've joined us. I write devotionals and inspirational stories (parables). Still working on a few things to be self-published. Blessings on your work! ::D

Hi and welcome, @Demurebard. Writing by hand simply as it comes is such a fun and curious thing. I've various projects going, done independent publishing, still working on traditional publishing and haven't gotten past querying yet. Wish you all the best.

Welcome Demurebard!
There is such joy in putting words together in a God-honoring way. I've finished one manuscript in the contemporary Christian fiction genre, and I'm halfway through a second book. The first book was a long time percolating, but once I got the ball rolling, it went quite quickly. There have been months of having others read it and a whole lot of editing. The second book is just flooding out, lol. I do find, though, that trying to figure out the publishing scene has slowed me way down. Praying for wisdom!

I'm writing a Fantasy / Noir about a golem detective. (Author / Editor Shawn Coyne told me your first book is almost always a kind of memoir, and I scoffed. But when I finished the first draft I realized I really written about my battle with Imposter Syndrome.)

What an interesting take! I'm going to have to give that some thought and see how my first book turns out! I wish you all the best and look forward to forum chats!

That's so encouraging to hear! Thanks for sharing!

Welcome!
Sounds like what someone called "The valley of the shadow of death" for books.
If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by "fell apart"?
Did you run out of ideas, decide you didn't like them, etc? Are they really a lost cause? Or something that you can pick up the pieces and rebuild them?

One was a memoir that I don't think I was doing very well at choosing stories. I've put it on the very back burner until I feel like it's the right time. The other one I decided I wanted to start the story in a different place, and it's very much related to the project I am currently using Save the Cat! Writes a Novel--it's the reason I switched to using Save the Cat! Writes a Novel. I wrote myself into a corner. I'm hoping that I will end up using a lot of what I wrote, but if not I still learned a lot from getting that far.

So not all wasted. I have some stories on the backburner waiting for the right time and right materials too. Sometimes I end up combining two stories into one.
Have you heard of "The Novel Matrix"? I heard a lot about it during the 90 day novel challenge.

Greetings and welcome aboard.

I don't think any time writing is wasted. "Writing is good for you." Right? Plus, the scraps of what didn't work could be the pieces of something else that could work. I haven't heard of "The Novel Matrix." I might have to check that out. I love the idea of experimenting with different writing stories and seeing what works for me. Thank you for letting me know about it!
