Written under my pen name Isaac C. Bishop.

"History is the propaganda of the victorious," observed Voltaire, and the history of America's so-called "Civil War" is no exception…It is under that prevailing narrative that Isaac. C. Bishop, a native of New England and the author of Defending Dixie's Land, came to find his interest in the South. Steeped in that narrative, he accepted it without question…With further research, the Truth began to reveal itself to the author, culminating in this fine book. The Truth cannot be killed. It may be buried alive, but it will not die. Like an archaeologist, Bishop has discovered the tomb of the Truth, and with this book he has rolled the stone away.
- H. V. Traywick, Jr. Author of Empire of the Owls: Reflections on the North’s War Against Southern Secession

The Southern Confederacy and its war for independence has always had defenders among informed students of history. These defenders have appeared in every generation. Some of them are from north of the Potomac or even across the Atlantic. The case for the South is here made again. For the future health of America It must be repeated until it sinks in.
-Clyde Wilson Emeritus Distinguished Professor of History, University of South Carolina

Are you interested in knowing the actual history of your country, or are you content with the propagandized version the winners of wars conjure up to feed schoolchildren? When it comes to the story and tradition of the U.S. South, and especially the events surrounding the Civil War (1861–1865), you may need to brace yourself. What you think you know about it is likely untrue – and not just by a little.

Isaac C Bishop is a lifelong New-Englander who happened to become interested in southern culture. But when he began to earnestly study its history and folklore, he was shocked by what he learned. Thus began an intense multi-year quest to unearth a true story which resulted in Defending Dixie's Land. Should you choose to set aside your preconceived biases and “take the red pill” with the author, you will discover:

• How the United States government was originally meant to function, and by what means that system was usurped in the mid-1800’s
• The real reasons the cotton states initially seceded
• The entirely different factors which prompted the upper South to then also secede
• An accurate picture of what life was like for minorities in both the North and South, and, as inherently wrong as the institution of slavery has always been on planet earth, why southern slaves generally viewed their situation as preferable
• Character traits and motives of Abraham Lincoln which shatter the humanitarian hero image painted in our minds
• Eye-opening facts about African-American support for the Confederacy, the history and current status of slavery worldwide, insights into the true enemy of free peoples everywhere, and more.

Defending Dixie's Land is an all-encompassing defense of the Southern cause; readers will no longer view American history the same.

You're about to become real popular - for all the wrong reasons - with that book.
Ignorance wants to stay ignorant. (Like silence is gone the moment you say it's name.)
My wife, a pastor, is from Virginia. I have toured the American holy lands with her.
Just know what you are opening yourself up to...

I do parent-teacher conferences on evil in video games for clueless parents.
Besides screen-time addiction, the video game ratings board does not rate game content for evil.
I speak to parents and teachers 3-4 times annually about the evil content that is rated E for everyone.
I let people know what they are getting themselves into...

I am not one for popularity, so I will be alright. But, of course, you might have guessed that by my book's content.

Your post proves my main theme of the book; we are taught a false history of America and the South!!!

Care to disuse it? I love clarifying misconceptions and false history.

Wow! Hope it opens some eyes. 👍 I do have a punctuation question...

Chapter 8- Will, the Real Abraham Lincoln Please, Stand up?

Why do you have a comma after Will?

Brave and bold of you @bilbobaggins. While I condemn slavery, no matter in what part of the world it takes place, I do understand the necessity of learning history. I always had mixed emotions about President Lincoln, but feel reincorporating the southern states into the union is what would have permanently set his image one way or the other. (What-ifs, right?) I know this is cliché, but there are two sides to every story and somewhere in the middle is the truth. History is history and sometimes one has to read about both sides to learn lessons that will prevent one from repeating destructive pasts.

My old HR boss always reminded me that "it all comes down to one's perspective." (I always hated that saying and was overjoyed when I finally walked away from HR.) That said, I hope this book is not your undoing in this "cancel culture." My final thought, the only real perspective that should matter is how our Lord sees us and the works we do for him.

(p.s. I am intrigued that Amazon actually published this in our current social environment.)

I believe that is not in the original, auto correct mistake most likely when I posted it here. Nice editors eye:D

Thank you for the wonderful post. I had, and still have, many of the concerns that you do. It is a part of why I wrote it under a pen name. But, I do not think it will sell well enough for Amazon to take notice of the PC content.

I've been thinking about your book since yesterday. Personally, I have always been fascinated with not only the civil war but what led up to it. I always marveled at Robert E. Lee's decision to side with his state (state's rights), not necessarily with the idea of slavery. I pointed out to a friend a couple of years ago that some of the very same conditions that let up to the war exist in modern society (scary thought).

That said, I sincerely wish you success with this book and echo @lynnmosher, I too hope it "opens some eyes."

Thank you very much. I do believe its strength is in the chapters on the causes of Southern secession. But the following chapter is also needed that describes the Union before Lincoln. Once we understand how our government functions, especially regarding state and federal interaction, all the pieces of the puzzle of southern secession fit nicely, and we can see why the South left the Union. That is to preserve the Union and prevent the creation of our current "American" nation. Today we praise the nation; I show why this was a degradation of liberty, not an improvement.

Just received the text for an upcoming review (not yet published) of my book by former University of South Carolina professor of history Clyde Wilson.

It is a well-established truth that the South, despite being under the ban of righteous mainstream “America” for two centuries, has always
attracted admirers from outside. Intelligent and earnest admirers from above the Potomac and Ohio and from across the sea. It is still
happening even in these terrible times when the South has been banished to one dark little corner labeled “slavery and treason.” For strong evidence I present Isaac C. Bishop’s new book Defending Dixie’s Land: What Every American Should Know About the South and the Civil War (available amazon paperback and Kindle). When I got a ways into this book I jumped in the air and clicked my heels, although it is unseemly and unsafe at my age. Mr. Bishop is a lifelong Vermonter who has done his own thinking and his own research. Research broader and deeper than that of a great many “professional historians” who are becoming more and more experts in
cherry-picking evidence from the past.

Mr. Bishop’s initial impulse came from his uneasiness at the woke America all around him. An overweening, crony capitalist central
government and falling moral standards did not seem to him what the Founding Fathers had intended. He wanted to know what had
happened to his country. A little reading showed him that he had been lied to about an imaginary wonderful Lincoln and about some other things and prompted an exploration of the genuine historical sources. What he found supported every position of Southerners toward the nature and meaning of the great bloodletting of 1861—1865. He came to understand that that’s when the rock started rolling downhill, that the results of the Late Unpleasantness were related to the Present Unpleasatness.

Bishop takes on every issue in the catalogue—slavery, the real confederal nature of the Union before 1861, the greed and malice that
fueled the Yankee invasion, the Republican establishment of state capitalism---a government of the rich that leaves most of the people
behind--- the atrocious Lincoln Myth, Northern racism, black Confederates, and much else. Bishop bases his case on many sources that are long neglected and draws new insights from them. This a real historian---the real thing who follows the evidence without moralistic or ideological
assumptions. He also quotes a good deal from the works of several Abbeville scholars.

The South’s long standing attraction for serious and honest people is understandable. Because for serious and honest people who have
looked at the truth, the Confederacy was a heroic epic fight for independence. The vicious, massive and ruthless invasion and conquest of the South by an aggressive class of Northerners was not a holy war of emancipation. It was marked by heavy elements of greed
and malice, had no interest in the welfare of the black people, and destroyed the intentions of the Founders. Dixie was not the sole sinner
but was in fact the lesser sinner of those days. America will not come to honest terms with itself until it begins to
admit the realities that this author has uncovered.

In my time I have written probably 200 or more book reviews. I have never used the comment “you ought to get this book.” I am using it
now.

As an, almost, 65 year old African-american woman, I have to decline any offer or encouragement to either purchase or read this book. I have no need of reading anything on the history of this country's accomplishments through the eyes of people who, to put it mildly, DO NOT KNOW US!
I have all the history of what went on in the South, during the times of slavery, just from listening to the elders who were part of the GREAT MIGRATION from two southern states: Mississippi and Georgia. Their "firsthand accounts" were not without pain. One of them being the, almost, lynching of my beloved grandfather. If ALMIGHTY GOD had not done a miracle, I would not be here typing the words you are reading today! AMAZING GRACE!

What I did not learn from conversations in our kitchens, livingrooms, and, by simply listening to recounted stories on the front porch - I learned from self-studying about the subject on my own. A library card is a powerful highway that gives you access to perspectives from many different viewpoints. And, before you say anything like, "Well, your people's accounts of the South are prone to be biased." I pride myself in trying not to let the color of my skin be a deciding factor when trying to seek truth. That is not to say that I am always successful. But, anyone who KNOWS me can testify to my consistency of impartiality.

Why? Let me just say that I knew my Great-Grandfather - He was the spittin' image of Mark Twain...and that does not mean that he was "passin' for "white"....HE WAS "WHITE!" And, it is because of the "oral traditions" of BOTH sides of my family that me, and my siblings, can trace our lineage, not back to Africa - but to China and Ireland. It is ONLY because of the dark pigmention of our skin that we KNOW that some of our ancestry is rooted in Africa. So, there you have it: so, for me to "pick sides" would be nothing short of hypocrisy! Moving on......

One season, of my Christian walk, I had joined a COGIC congregation where the Church Secretary was none other than Mamie Till-Mobley. You may, or may not remember, that it was her son, Emmett Till that was kidnapped, tortured, and killed in Mississippi in the summer of 1955. And, it was due to the courage of "Mother" Mobley-Till that the entire world was able to get a "glimpse" of what the racism of the South REALLY looked like!

And, the all-white jury that delivered that verdict of "Not Guilty", only confirmed
that what she so bravely allowed to be shown was NOT a "biased" forgery to evoke compassion for the "negro" race of America. It was truth....ugly...brutal..raw...engraved in the corpse of her teenage son. Before anyone reads this book, may I encourage you to review the story AND photos of that "historical" event?

IN CLOSING: My question is: Do we, the regenerated, Christ-exalting /God glorifying believers REALLY need to read a book that could only open up wounds that may only cause division and distractions that could either hinder or impede us from fulfilling the GREAT COMMISSION? Do we?

King Jesus Himself said that if "you are not helping Him gather, then you are scattering."
In YOUR opinion, which of these could such a book do?
If the things that we read, and watch, do more to separate than promote brotherhood...peace...love...and, most of all, faith in Jesus Christ, is it something that should be promoted, and worse -celebrated?
I hope not.

True -There will ALWAYS be a bias spin on things like that, and the "weak-minded" will embrace it and see it as validation to hate, hurt, and harm. But, to be fair, there are organizations that twist Scriptures from the Bible for their own perverted agendas. A study of pass World Wars are evidence of that. But, let us use past studies as tools to advance for the betterment of mankind.....all of it. And not distort it in such a way where one people can be viewed as "superior" to another....remember the HOLOCAUST.

Also, In closing, for me, personally: Being a TRUE member of the BODY OF CHRIST means that I really don't need to know your history to love and enjoy you, now, as a member of His Forever Family. If you want to share your testimonies, if you want to share with me some of the non-offensive traditions that you and your culture have enjoyed, if you want to learn from me about mine: LET'S DO THAT!
The key words in that statement is "non-offensive" and "enjoyed". This has opened up many delightful experiences that have made me long, all the more, for our "Heavenly Home". Our Bridegroom King has been gone for over 2000 years...preparing a place where His Forever Family of every tongue, tribe, and nations
will be FINALLY able to TOTALLY enjoy each other as His "sheep from other flocks." This country, and any other, that we are JUST PASSIN' THROUGH, is not that place!
Our TRUE citizenship is elsewhere. Amen?

Let's encourage each other to focus more on "where" we are going than "what" we have come through! Amen? As Apostle Paul himself admonished us to do....forgetting those things behind and press on....upward!
Amen?

Thank you, SW! I just did a re-editing. My first draft was more "reactive" than "proactive". I hope that everyone can hear more of my heart than my head in it. I really do.

Thanks for your thoughts and comments, my sister in Christ, but you have the wrong idea of my book; it is meant to unite, not divide.

Response
It's great that I do not apply the same thinking to Jesus!!! What does a poor carpenter living 2,000 years ago have to do with me, a modern white American!!! It seems modern Christians should teach Jesus a thing or two about racism because he thought the truth was for everyone!!! The bigoted ignorance of those who disagreed with racism and only accepted the truth (please detect the sarcasm here). Truth should override racism IMO.

I am sad to hear you will not read a book just because its author is not your sex or race; how can you cite scripture written by middle eastern Jews (usually men) who are not 65-year-old black women? Further, you're assuming my book does not include African American women who actually experienced slavery; there, you would be sorely mistaken my sister in Christ. In fact, much of African American history has been removed by white historians; you will rediscover some of it in my book!!!

I am sorry to hear about the difficulties of your ancestors during the "great migration." Do you know why that occurred? Do you know why race relations were far worse AFTER the civil war and slavery ended? Do you know why black, by and large, preferred the South before the war? Do you know the statistic of lynching prewar vs post-war? Please do not start your history AFTER the war; go back further into your ancestors' history. I have an extensive section on prewar and post-war racial relations that almost entirely quotes blacks and former slaves who lived before, during, and after the war. Please allow those ancestors to be heard along with basic historical facts; it will transform your perception as it did mine. But we must be willing to accept the truth; that tends to be the most challenging part, as Jesus told us it would be. Some just do not want to have their cherished misconceptions challenged!!!

Sister in Christ, blacks kill whites as do whites to black thoe the former in far greater numbers, But I do not go back 80 years looking for one instance and paint an entire people that way; that would be prejudice!!! I live in Vermont; I would not find one Christian and then say Vermont is all Christians; no, we are very secular. Likewise, do not paint the entire South one way due to the acts of a single person. Also, you only seem to care about POST WAR. My book deals with pre-war and during the war.

If you read my book, I specifically mention I intend to heal and unite, not divide. Modern politicians constantly utilize race (and slavery) to tear us apart; I wish to UNITE us by showing true history. Trust me; they will continuously divide us and "open up wounds" and even create new ones, it is what they do. Lies, distortion, and untruth should never go unchanged. No, truth does matter, and if we, as the Church, refuse to tell the truth, who will?

"non-offensive" and "enjoyed."
I think both Jesus and Paul offended people more often than not; in fact, they were killed for it!!! Neither do I think they disregarded history (that would include the OT for them),. No we use history and learn from it; God would not have recorded it if it were not vital!! It is a good thing God kept bringing up ancestors failure in the Garden of Eden, or we would think that we have no need for a savior!!

No comment. I have said (written) all that I will on this with you on earth. When we get to our GREAT WHITE THRONE appointment and we are standing before the JUDGE OF ALL JUDGES: the one who knows the hearts and minds of ALL - that will be the PERFECT place for a rebuttal. His is the ONLY position on this subject that should matter to either of us! Amen? See you there!
