What songs makes you dance & sing?

I'm curious what song makes you dance and/or sing along, even if it's just clapping/snapping along or humming/whistling.

There are others but I decided to go with these 5 for this post:

Footloose (from the movie footloose (which I don't remember anything but the end with this song))

Hunk of burning love - Elvis Presley

Can't Stop the feeling - Justin Timberlake

Turn up the Radio - Autograph

Ain't no Mountain high enough - Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

All songs I like, lol. But let's see about the ones I can think of off the top of my head:

Rewrite the Stars (the Greatest Showman--actually all the ones from the greatest showman)

Lough Swilly Railway (Celtic Thunder instrumental)

The Boxer (Simon and Garfunkel)

Homeward Bound (Simon and Garfunkel)

That's all I can think of at the moment. 🙂

Remember Bing Cosby and David Bowie singing White Christmas on a Christmas special years ago? Before the song, they bantered, and David asked him if he knew of some of the modern singers. When he listed them Bing said, "They're marvelous." He said it in a way I can't, but exactly how I thought half way through that video. Marvelous! I love how the oldies mirror the newies. And, "I love the funk. Gotta have the funk."

On the other hand, hubby is in the same room, and he was shocked I could listen to that whole song. He said something about leaving tomorrow... until he heard who was dancing to it. I love the funk. He loves the blues. 😆

I'm not good at just one song, but I'll give you artists I tend to dance to. Or worse yet, belt out loud with them. (I cannot sing.)

I started kicking it outside in the garden last week to KC and the Sunshine Band. (We live in a rowhome with a 16' X 16' backyard, so we can see, and talk to neighbors 2-3 houses away without raising our voices. No one wants to see a 60-something-year-old doing disco moves.)

Sly and the Family Stone

Aretha

Cyndi Lauper (Her greatest hits only)

Janis Joplin, (which is more energetic stage-presenting than dancing.)

I’m a rocker from waaaaaaaaaay back! Met hubs in a rock ‘n roll band. He played guitar; I dated the lead singer.

You asked for it! Couldn’t do just five. I know I’ve left out a bunch! I think I’ll divide them up.

This one always brings me a smile. It's more of a tapping/humming/signing (and I dare say bouncing) experience than dancing: Phish: Bouncing Around the Room (Live - Clifford Ball 1994)

Another top-tapping favorite:

Thank you Lynn.  I really enjoyed hearing the Big Band Music again.  It was always among my favorite music styles.  I remember in the early 50's, before the advent of Rock 'N Roll, there was a TV Variety Show starring Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, and their combined Bands.

Then after the RnR revolution, when I was in High School, there was still Lawrence Welk, at 9 0'clock on Saturday nights, playing the old but very good Big Band melodies.  The show also featured the Lennon (Not sure how to spell that family name.) Sisters.

An hour earlier, there was Dick Clark's Saturday Night Live, from the Little Theater in New York's Time's Square Theater District.  Featuring the most popular Rock & Roll Singers.  Their bands were smaller.  About a half dozen, who only played guitars and drums.

I do remember once, Dick Clark featured the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  A few dozen singers, who sang The Battle Hymn of the Republic.  That was in the early '60s, which was the Centennial of the Civil War, and the Choir's recording of the Hymn, just happened to become among the Top Ten Hits; which was all that was necessary for any performer to be invited to appear on Dick Clarks show.

I was a big Stevie Wonder fan a few years back! Still love a lot of his music.  Still get teary-eyed hearing "I was Made to Love Her" 'cause it gets me thinking about a dog I had, and I still get nostalgic hearing "For Once in My Life".

I've been listening to a lot of Billy Joel lately.  I consider his music a bit more "mature" if you know what I mean.  He wrote some good songs that unfortunately he ruined with one or two unnecessary lines.  I do sing along to almost every song of his that I listen to, but notable favorites are:

Vienna

Just the Way You Are

It's Still Rock and Roll To Me

The Longest Time

Movin' Out

. . . and . . . my favorite for rocking out, singing along to, and having a blast . . .

https://youtu.be/Hxx8IWIvKg0

One of the most amazing songs ever written.

I also liked the music of Rodgers & Hammerstein, who wrote the Top, number one Broadway Musicals, from the 1940s through the '50s, and into the 60's.  Beginning with Oklahoma.  Then going on to Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I.   Along with some others I can't remember.  All the way to The Sound of Music.  Containing dozens of major hit songs.

While I think of some, I'll share this fun video that I love that peps me up and has me bouncing every time. Someone took a bazillion dance routines from movies and synced them all to Uptown Funk...

Okay, this is shockingly, amazingly well-done!!!  And I speak as someone with experience in video editing and syncing clips to music.  Whoever made this is legit one of the most technically talented, patient, precise people ever.  It is NOT easy to sync clips like that.  It can be done, of course, but takes major skill, patience, and is very time consuming.  Bravo.  Big bravo.
