man that book is old school. I even read the sequel Gathering Blue, that was trash.

Jonah: do you love me?

mom and dad: precision of language, jonah

it’s Jonas and so far Gathering Blue isn’t too bad

old school? dude it’s 1993. That’s not old! Maybe not young either but still, it’s about as old as my brother 😂

Hm, how did I get the name Jonah in my head

The Giver is a very good dystopian novel

It’s more profound than modern dystopians, mm

.....okay so I may or may not have forgotten what profound means

it reminded me of those Zenna Henderson books--like The People and that Anything Box, or whatever it was called

Profound just means deep and thought-provoking

I like people who think deep thoughts.

Jonas was a deep thinker when he became critical of his society

oooOOoooh

I wish I could say my thoughts are deep but I honestly don't know. Dark, yes. Weird, definitely. And I mean I think them through . . .  like I spend time dwelling on 'em, but I feel like that doesn't count 😂

isn't this a children's book? 😛

Yes, technically.  But it's an intelligent and profound book on many levels.  Worth reading at pretty much any age, unless you're a hopeless cynic.  (Hang on...wait a minute... I thought I was a hopeless cynic??)

That was a rhetorical question bruh

but ne ways, poser means a wannabe

Okay, gotcha.  If you knew me irl, you'd be surprised at what a harsh cynic I'm capable of being.

I for one would be very surprised, yes. But also given the old movies you watch with cynical charcacters, I can see how you would have examples of it XD

Hmm.  There's definitely a good chance you could catch me brooding on my front stoop.  It sounds like something I would do.  In fact, that sounds like a great past time I need to indulge in more often.

And I'm not familiar with that book, but just from your comment it sounds like a book I'd like to be familiar with.

Nah, it’s probably too heavy for you. They teach it in French high schools, but they also have a long history of nihilistic philosophers over there
