AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE (My Story)

Recommended Posts

Right. I need advise. For all you who haven't read some of my story yet, it basically involves the furry three eyed creatures as the main characters. However, I have a hard time imagining this, and I always get something like a wookie with three eyes. My close readers think pretty much the same thing. So I've been wondering...should I switch to normal, good old humans? It would be a lot simpler, And I would have a much clearer picture of my main character. Also, I have pretty much no description what so ever of my alien race besides the three eyes and the fur. That can put a lot of strange images in someone's head. Especially mine. And it drives me crazy.

I'm over one hundred pages of the story, however, and that's why I'm hesitant. It would be a painstaking task to go throughout the story to fix the descriptions and everything, but it might be worth it. So I would greatly appreciate your advice on whether I should switch to humans, or whether I should stick with my little furry three eyed people. If the latter, it would also be appreciated if someone could tell me how to create a more sophisticated looking race. And something that doesn't look like a wookie.

Thank you!

Find a friend who is good at illustration. Have them try some concept drawings until you get something interesting and distinctive. Then run with that.

I do have a friend who is decent at drawing, but it as very, very tempting to simply do humans.

What was the reason you decided to do furry three-eyed creatures in the first place? If you didn't have any particular reason for it, and feel you could write essentially the same story with humanoid aliens, or even actual humans, I'm curious as to why you decided not to?

But maybe there's a reason your creatures need to be the way they are--do their three eyes, or their fur, give them important advantages/disadvantages/abilities in the world of the story? If you're going to go for it, I'd go for it all the way...

Welll...My first motivation was because my sister wrote a book about aliens too. Completely different looks, completely different plot. I decided that it would be interesting to have the main character be an alien for once as well. And yes, they would be ordinary humans.

If you wanted to do a story about aliens, just for the sake of doing it about aliens, you could make your characters look human and still be technical aliens. Especially if it is easier. Just do a word check and have the computer search for every time you brought up fur and three eyes.
