lynnmosher 7,434
Grrrr!!! Sometimes certain grammar blunders drive me cuckoo! This happens every once in awhile but I've heard it several times in the last couple of days. TAKE vs BRING It's not "bring this to your father" or "bring me home." It's TAKE! I never hear it the other way around. Using take rather than bring. Not ranting at you guys, of course. Just venting!!! GRRR!!!

Are there regions where "bring me home" is a common saying?
lynnmosher 7,434
Those were just examples. I couldn't think of anything specific I've heard. Could be though.
Ky_GirlatHeart 643
Haha, I can relate! People who use "lie" and "lay" improperly or whatever other words that are REALLY EASY IF THEY'D LEARN IT drive me bananas! I believe "bring" is movement towards you, and "take" is movement away from you. That's one way to remember it.
suspensewriter 4,966
I've heard it a lot in the deep south (Arkansas), Lynn. So maybe like Chris says, its idiomatic.

carolinamtne 4,322
Ditto, Lynn. And in writing, "it's" vs. "its" from people writing professionally!
lynnmosher 7,434
Oh, that, too! I've read so many headlines lately (and some articles) where the grammar is atrocious! It's like nobody edits or even reads what they've written. Ugh! I have to stop reading. Drives me nuts!

Ragamuffin_John 568
Thou ventest well! From ivory tower to the boondocks, I hear “compared to” being used to pose two different ideas, things, etc. So wait: different things are similar? “In contrast to” should be used. But, I sense we think “contrast” is Thurston Howell III usage. And (picky me) there’s the phrase “swell down”. Might as well say “Inflate down”. This is the real Deflategate. And you can bring that to the bank! Edited November 25, 2020 by Ragamuffin_John
lynnmosher 7,434
LOL Good ones, Rag! Another irritation? "On accident." Grrrr!!!! I got so aggravated 5 years ago on Facebook that I posted this...
carolinamtne 4,322
Alley, I've read your writing. You write well, although sometimes the spell checker sends your word down a different path.

Sarah Daffy 4,222
@Alley where do you find these?
Sarah Daffy 4,222
This reminds me of a couple of months ago when I was on a call with my doctor and writing down instructions on my phone on how to soak my injured toe and of course wrote “hamsters rip in shreds” instead of “rip washcloth in shreds”.
