So in the past, when someone has reviewed a book of mine, I’ve “liked” the review on their blog or Goodreads and left a short note saying “Thanks” or “I appreciate it.” But I just read an article saying it’s bad form to comment on a review or mention it at all. What do you all think/do?

If a person just randomly reviewed the book, I wouldn’t feel like I should say something, but most people who have given me reviews have done so because I specifically asked them to, and even if the review is not super positive, I see it as a big favor/service. Of course I would never criticize a review, or ask them to change it, but it feels wrong to not acknowledge it. Perhaps a private note is best?

I'm with you, Zee. When I do graphics on FB and someone comments or especially shares, I thank them. I'm saying that because I like to thank people for going out of their way to say or do something. So I would want to thank those who've left a nice review. However, I've always read that one should refrain from commenting. But I would, as Shamrock suggested, to thank someone privately if I knew them.

I "like" positive reviews on Goodreads and Bookbub. On Goodreads, at least, if you do that, it will show up in the feeds of the person's friends and, therefore, get the book more exposure. I don't comment, though.
