Sigil software for EPUB

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used Sigil to create EPUB files? I'm tinkering with it now and it seems like it will probably work once I figure it out, but I'm always nervous about it not looking right on some e-readers.

I haven't used Sigil. I've used Calibre, and it worked fine. I also used an EPUB validation tool, which checks the code within the book to make sure it displays well on all major devices. I can't remember which one I used (It was a couple of years ago), but it was a free online tool that was widely recommended by another Indie writer forum.

And for added measure, I opened and reviewed each book on Adobe Digital Editions. These were both EPUB files I directly generated, and files I downloaded from Smashwords after they got published (Just to make sure nothing had been changed).

My books also don't contain any fancy formatting, just fiction in straight-forward chapters. So I can't say if Calibre is any better at handling complex book formatting.

I've got Calibre but I wasn't sure it offered much functionality in doing EPUB conversion, or at least any editing after the conversion. IngramSpark has a validation tool they recommend so I'll definitely use that. Adobe Digital Editions is a good suggestion - I'll do that too now that you mention it.
