Yes. That was my feeling on killing a major character in my novel. Funnily enough it was th impact on the remaining character I.e their grief which really upset me.

As some of you have said, exactly why a character dies plays a big part in how we feel about writing, or reading it.


I wouldn't feel the least bad about sending someone to a righteous and heroic death; I'd be cheering him (or her) on, in fact.

When it's an accident, and the character's own dumb fault, no less, it's more like, ugh. 


Too late for this tale, but I won't be doing this again any time soon.
