SP requires a lot of self marketing - which I personally find difficult. Not saying trad pub would be much better but this is the thing that I need to work on. 

 

Thanks for the post on the first 5 pages - it more or less confirms what I suspected.

Great stuff. But I've always been of the firm belief that the first pages should do just enough to draw the reader in without giving too much away. I also understand that everyone is different. I suppose editors/agents/publishers all have their own unique tastes and such. Like many other things in life, it's a total balancing act.
