Literary Agents and Publishers

Recommended Posts

Greetings.

I just joined, so please forgive me if there is a thread already on-going about this topic. I have several manuscripts ready or nearly ready for publication and have been attempting to research both markets and agents suitable for the projects. Two of these manuscripts involve original poems and photography. One would qualify as a gift book. A third is acrostic poetry, not necessarily "Christian," but suitable for an audience that includes Christians. I have found the poetry market is not a large one, nor do many agents represent it. I really believe in the quality of my work, however. I do not write only poetry, but these are the burning, completed or nearly completed projects on my plate at the moment. (In the past I have published articles, short stories, photographs, sketches, and "produced" plays I wrote -- oh, and, yes, poems.)

If you are a published Christian writer and would like to endorse your agent I would love to hear from you. If you are an agent interested in representing my type of work, I would very much like to hear from you and provide more details.

I would also be interested in any tips/advice on how to approach an agent as this is not an area I am experienced in.

Thanks all, and happy writing!

First, you may want to get a copy of The Christian Writers Market Guide. There will be a list of agents. The only publishers I would suggest you search for are those small publishers. Some do not require an agent. I would also study query letters for agents but be sure you check each agent's site for each one has his/her own guidelines. And they must be followed to a T. Otherwise, you'll end up in the wastebasket.

Also, I hope you'll hop over to Meet and Greet and introduce yourself so everyone will know you are here and can welcome you. :D

You can find it at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Christianbook.com, and you might want to check the library. :D

you can find it in the reference section in your library.  it doesn't just have publisher and agents listed; it has helpful, informative articles
