"The cork squeaked like a mouse as it popped effortlessly out of the bottle neck. The tattered message read:

'You have just found your life's treasure. Read Matthew 6:19-21.'"

Drat. That has over 27 words. BEEP!! I lost. :(

"Don't rescue me. Just send a pack of seeds for vegetables, spade, shovel, some manure, a bottle of salad dressing, bowls, cutlery. Or you could rescue me ..."

Does making copies for your writers' group and sharing it with them constitute publishing? That's what I consider posting something here.

No, for your writers' group. Not considered publishing. :)

Do you think they'd accept something set in the future? Like this:

27 February 2302. 57º 35’ 45” N, 13º 41’ 13” W. The ancient stories of sea monsters are true. I should know.

I don't think I can come up with anything succinct enough to enter! Great job actually doing it, Claire!

Will just throw this into the ring. I think it's fairly cliche though!

"Run."

Interesting. You could turn this into a story. Why would someone put that message in a bottle? Unless something else is in the bottle, something that will come out?

@Sarah Daffy and @Sophie, I give you ladies full permission to write a story where a bug pops out of a bottle if you so choose. Have at it! 😁

@carolinamtne, I think I was thinking more along the lines that something would pop out of the bushes or something. Or the ocean. And that somehow the bottle being found was connected to that event. Maybe once the bottle is opened, something must pop out of somewhere. Lol. I dunno what I was going for!
