VERY Short Story Contest

Recommended Posts

Sounds interesting, Claire. Though probably easier than Hemingway's 6 word story: For sale: baby shoes, never worn. ;)

Okay. In case someone hasn't looked at the guidelines, here they are:

Imagine a bottle rides the waves of the ocean until it finally washes ashore, where someone discovers the bottle, pulls out a cork, and...there is a message inside. The message may have been written last week or several centuries ago. It might be a friendly greeting or a desperate plea for help. It might be a missive to be delivered to someone or a dying person’s will or a note for posterity. It might be anything.

What does the message say? In 27 words or less...go to it! :D

Will do this, too. I'm thinking Gilligan's Island! LOL Don't know if I'll get to it just yet. Not feeling well at the moment and I have a funeral to attend tomorrow. But these are always fun, so I'll get to it. :D

I'm still cogitating.

Just read this thread of discussion and.... Short isn't my favorite, but I"ll try this out, too. Cogitating may last a while for me, also, though.

Before I forge to ask (again): Do we post them here when we've finished them?

Can you tell I live in the midwest?

Heavy rain. Hail. Wind. Why do I hear a train? Head for the basement!

27-word prompt:

Walking on the beach in the early mornings is something I used to do with my brother. The day he disappeared, I knew the cause. The message in a bottle he opened. Even though I cautioned him not to uncork the grimy, barnacle-covered glass container. But he did.

Of course it's too long!! And I had one more sentence - a cliff-hanger, if you will - to add!! Oh well. It was rather morbid.

According to the contest rules, all entries must be unpublished. So if you plan to enter something, don't post it here. That could constitute publishing.

There goes my Gilligan's Island inspired note. o_O

No worries, I wasn't going to enter anything anyway. It was all for fun.

Hmmm. I forgot about the bottle part. Maybe it was in one of the heavy raindrops that fell out of the sky???

On vacation at the beach. We put a message in a bottle.

“Help, I’m caught in here. Let me out, Please.”

We laughed at the joke.

That's my "off the top of my head" effort. It is tough to write that tight.

Does making copies for your writers' group and sharing it with them constitute publishing? That's what I consider posting something here.
