There are a lot of hilarious images here.

The middle-earth films are my favorite series of films. Unfortunately, I have admittedly still not read the books yet, though I do own them.

What I love about the books is the  amazing sense of millennia of history behind the stories. I've just reread them, with the difference that I actually read some of the appendices as well. Explains so many things, like Aragorn's ring, the Witch-King of Angmar (later the leader of the Nazgul), and other battles that happened in the War of the Ring that don't feature in the movies.

Just a brief side-note: when I first read the books, I found it difficult to follow "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King", just because of how Tolkien wrote it, following each individual group for several days, then rewinding the clock, and following a different group, and repeating for the remaining group(s).

They’re a long haul! But very worth it.

I liked the Rankin/Bass movies the best, but then I remember watching them on TV at Thanksgiving as a kid at my grandmas house after the big meal.  I still remember the scene of if Frodo reaching Mt Doom and deciding he was not going to destroy the ring. Gollum biting off his finger and laughing and dancing hystericly at his triumph until he reached the edge.
