On December 26, I fell through thin ice while skating on a pond in Winchester, MA. As I fell, I broke my right arm. Last Friday, January 5, I was operated upon. Dr. David Alessandro attached a metal plate to my upper humerus using seven screws. Please pray for my recovery, pain management and physical therapy. I might not recover the full range of motion.
I am grateful for the quick and skillful response of the Winchester Fire Department, especially Erica Poitras, who came out with the pontoon sled and pulled me from the icy waters. I was in the water about twenty-five minutes. But for their efforts, I would have died.
The lesson I learned is to not film swans on your cell phone while skating or you will take a swan dive.
Through this ordeal I have learned to treasure the grace of God. My folly put me in that pond, but the sense that God is close to me has seldom been greater. The Spirit embraces me without judgment or reservation, because the price for all my carelessness was paid on Calvary long ago.
