Let's practice writing bios

@AHumbleWarrior suggested we write our bios so s/he could learn about us but it would also be a good practice. If you were writing a 50 word bio for this site, what would it say? If you were writing for a site that is publishing your work, say a large site, push that word limit to 100 and see if it makes a difference. That means write two. This is good practice and you can save it for when you'll need it. Write the 50 word in first person and the second one in third person.

This was a fun exercise! Here's mine.


I am a 17-year-old highschool graduate looking for the next step. I’ve written creatively for most of my life, but didn’t start taking it seriously until I was thirteen. I’ve taken two Great Courses in fiction writing, and currently I’m working on my first novel, A Beat of the Heart.

P.M. Turner is a quirky, easily distracted writer with big dreams. She was homeschooled, graduated highschool at age sixteen, and is looking for God to lead her in the right direction. She has been writing seriously for a few years and has hopes to publish the novel she’s working on. She also loves writing poetry. When not writing, P.M. enjoys video editing for her YouTube channel, lots of reading, community theater, watching classic movies, blasting Billy Joel music, hiking, and spending time with her cats and sometimes her family. P.M. resides in Michigan, where she wishes it wasn’t so cold.

Claire Tucker is a copyeditor, proofreader, science tutor, and violin teacher who lives in South Africa but frequently visits other worlds through books. She adores the world of fiction and loves to explore Christian themes through writing, particularly fantasy. Claire also enjoys being in nature, especially if it involves hiking in the beautiful Drakensberg.

Originally from Berkshire, Sheelagh is a vicar in the North West of England, who seeks to bring stories of ordinary people dealing with contemporary issues of faith and life to the widest audience.

Sheelagh trained as Youth and Community Worker in Yorkshire. She worked for the London Chamber of Commerce and YMCA,then moved to Gateshead in 1996 with her family to work for Cranmer Hall, Durham before becoming a parish priest in 2005. Sheelagh only started going to church whilst working for the YMCA because she found people who enjoy going to the pub who were Christians too.

I am a senior citizen (in my mid 70s). I have loved to write off and on for decades. I chose to get serious about writing toward the end of the 20th Century. In order to do it, I practically gave up flower crafting. I am married and we have one son.

Cecelia Lester has worked in various governmental jobs. She lives in the town where she was born in central Indiana, USA. She loves to travel but reasons of husband's health cause them not to. Her writing consists of Christian devotional essays. She is searching for markets to which she can submit. She has been blogging under the name, Quiet Spirit-Following My King on Blogspot. She also contributes to a Christian website, Live as IF.org.
She and her husband have one son.

Here's a rather short one I've used somewhere:
Writer of devotionals. Lover of decorating and cooking. Wearer of socks. Bride of 56 years. Seeker of God's will in all things. Praiser in gratitude.

And a longer one:
Lynn Mosher has had her socked feet firmly planted in the Midwest since she drew her first breath. She was saved at the well-known Billy Graham crusade in New York City in 1957. She is the keeper of a secret recipe for barbecue sauce, which she may share if you bribe her with enough chocolate.

Although an upheaval of illness has stalked her for many years, her deepest passion (besides cooking/baking and crafting) is sharing her devotionals, inspirational stories (some through published anthologies and on other sites), and graphics on social media, fulfilling God’s call on her life to encourage others and glorify the Lord with her writing. Yes, a bunch. Last check about eight inches. May or may not get more, but the wind is blowing it around. Fortunately, we have a little tractor if we need to abandon ship.

Here's a longer version, rewritten:
Carolyn Dickinson reads, writes, and longs for the horse she sold. Her diverse writing includes Bible stories for adults, a fictional diary of the Oregon and Bozeman Trails, a contemporary Western women’s novel, and numerous short stories (some published). After retiring from thirty years of teaching, she enjoys playing hymns on her rebuilt pump organ. The cats sometimes sit next to her on the bench while she plays. The summer cacophony includes the full-volume organ, the disabled sheep, the ducks, and the chickens.

The shorter version, rewritten in first person:
I read, write, and long for the horse I sold. After thirty years of teaching, I turned to my computer keyboard for diverse genres, from Bible stories for adults to historical Western and women’s fiction. My “family” includes a disabled sheep, ducks, chickens, cats, and a dog.
