Hi all,

I'll be (finally!) publishing my 1st manuscript within a week or two. A question for you all - anyone have insights/thoughts on good keywords? A few things about the book...

- elements of faith throughout and Christians will recognize themes, but avoids being overt.
- speculative fiction... Blurs reality. Things happen in the "real world" that wouldn't really happen.
- Uplifting/positive with a few "tear jerker" moments
- some adventure and suspense though not a suspense book

Site for details:

Thanks!!

Sounds like a great book. I hope it does well. Do you need some reviews?

I'm in the middle of this keyword morass myself.

The upside is that there are a couple of strategies that I think will work.

The first is Rocket Publisher (It's been renamed). It's less than $100.00 for a lifetime subscription. You can use it for keyword research. I just recently bought it.

Another strategy is to run an Amazon ads with a maximum of $1.00 a day for your book. When you create the ad, Amazon analyzes your book and your selected categories and compiles a list of keywords. You essentially have Amazon match keywords for you and bid on a match. They key is to set a manual bid and make it low (like $0.30) and run it for a long period of time - a few weeks to a month. You can then go into Amazon's ad reporting tool to download the keywords that matched, and how often. Once you have a base of keywords, you can then add or remove to tailor your match.

The thing is, with such a low manual bid, the odds you'll win the click is pretty low. So, it allows you to gather keyword stats without breaking the bank.

I've been using Facebook ads, and they are now becoming effective. For the first time in over a year, my sales broke even with my ad spending (I'm usually further into the hole after running ads). Likewise, I sold over three times the number of books in the last seven days than I did in the WHOLE MONTH with my last release.

I also did some tests on Bookbub and finally started pulling 2%+ CTR.

Thanks for the insights. I love the idea of using an ad to gather data. Great point.
