Blog A Day of Remembrance

The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous,

And His ears are open to their cry.

The face of the LORD is against those who do evil,

To cut off the remembrance of them from the face of the earth.

Psalm 34:15-16 (NKJV)

A Psalm of David

When one who follows God, truly obeys Him, He listens to his or her petitions. God guides them through those circumstances.

However, the LORD looks askance on the pleas of those who do evil. He removes the evil-doers from the memory of those who live on our earth.

Today is the 22nd anniversary of the World Trade Center disaster, also known as 9/11. It is a melancholy time in the United States. There were too many taken to remember each one individually. We remember them as a group and their families.

However, we do not remember the perpetrators. They brought evil to our nation by their nation’s and their religion’s disrespect for human life.

Prayer:

Help us, Father, to remember those who were taken unexpectedly that morning and especially those who chose to keep this disaster from escalating. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen

Here in the New York Metropolitan Area, a Memorial Service was held. The Service was televised by local TV News stations, WABC, WNBC and WCBS. The name of each victim was read in alphabetical order, by many different relatives of the victims. The Service was broadcast from 8:30AM until around 12:30 PM.
I only watched the last half hour. Many famous people attended, including former President Bush.
I now ask that we join in the prayers of everyone who attended the televised Memorial Service.
In Jesus Name. Amen.

I was stationed on the other side of the world when this happened, but was transferred much closer the same year. I made it to NYC a couple of years later, saw the hole in the ground, and went back after the memorial was finished. Truly it is a moving place.

I have prayed for the repose of the souls lost there and at the other sites, and for the ones the fallen left behind. I have also prayed for justice and perseverance. Though I cannot remember all of the perpetrators, we must pray for our enemies as Our Lord commanded, So I offer a prayer from St. Thomas More:

"Almighty God, have mercy on [our enemies] and on all that bear [us] evil will and would do [us] harm, and on their faults and [ours] together, by such easy, tender, merciful means, as thine infinite wisdom best can devise; vouchsafe to amend and redress and make us saved souls in heaven together, where we may ever live and love together with thee and thy blessed saints, O glorious Trinity, for the bitter passion of our sweet Savior Christ. Amen."
