Agreed. I'm not even a fan of Twitter. Pitch Parties are the new slush pile. I only use it to find agents and what they're looking for, in conjunction with search engines, and other research methods.
To the trenches!
They're a way for people in the industry to quickly find writers who are trying to get traditionally published. I have heard several success stories of people finding agents or smaller publishers to get their work published. But if you aren't active on Twitter and have little to no...
I have participated in a few Twitter Pitches over the years. While I think the concept is intriguing, I feel like it is highly unlikely someone's work will get noticed. Pitches get lost in the the slush pile of the Twitterverse.
In addition, several pitch organizations/groups have dissolved...
I have a family friend who self published a book, and I gave him my honest opinion and critique in a tactful manner. Unfortunately, he did not take the critique well. Grammatically and historically he was on point, but the pace of the story was like watching the grass grow. It also was over 200k...
Right!?! I actually had an editor look at my first 5 pages, and she commented that I didn't set the scene. She said I needed to describe the setting the characters were in. It was hard for her to picture where the two characters were. Is that important to the story? For some readers, absolutely...
This article gives a run down of why adjectives and adverbs are considered weak writing. I'm sad to say, that I have found I have use some of these words in my writing. As writers we strive to improve every day. https://electricliterature.com/the-case-against-adjectives/
Does anyone subscribe to Publishers Marketplace? If so, do you find it helpful for "trends" and knowledge for what's being sold and read? If not, why?
I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. 🤔
I use the premium service. I like commas like they're going out of style though. Also, I have a paying gig, and want to make sure my grammar is squared away.
Probably all of the above. I just have absolutely no clue. I do have a website, and wondering if people use a pdf, a service like MailChimp, or what?
I have my subscriptions going to my email, but I feel like that is a lot to keep track of, but then again, I'm absolutely lost. 💁🏼♀️😊
Thanks...
You're correct. I wrote it as a contemporary fictional novel. At the time, I thought it entirely plausible scenario given, as you said those two counties have been having issues. Since the fall of the curtain, there has always been that thought of Russia invading their former Soviet Union...
I appreciate the advice. I had drawn the same conclusion, but I wanted to have a concrete feeling/answer about my decision. . . Back to the drawing board. 😊
I did, and I think that is the struggle. Currently, we don't know the outcome in real life. To put a fictitious outcome would probably confuse the reader, especially if the outcome was the opposite of what I wrote.
