  1. An idea I often have thought about is using something to record myself speaking the story out loud and then all I would have to do is listen and type what I'm hearing as sometimes inspiration can occur when you're not in a place to write anything down.
  2. Oh ok... well I saw this and thought I'd mention a few Bible verses to think about in regards to this statement. This is often the misconception and the general view of the world, that most people are good people. If you ask any stranger in the street if they think of themselves as a good person I think nearly all people would say yes. But keeping this in mind, from a Christian perspective, we really aren't good people at all. The Bible tells us a few things that shows that without God we are corrupted by sin and we are unable to be good by ourselves or by d
  3. I'd like to know what you meant by this line?
  4. As an IT person I deal with a lot of people's computers and often when talking to them they talk about their kids and technology. A lot of them don't protect their kids from technology but allow them to get tablets and phones and hand held games because it's easier for them not what is best for the child, a lot of it comes down to better parenting. I have also had my share of parents who allow their children to use technology, but limit the amount of use and turn off their access to wifi in the evening and supervise their kids use of technology
  5. There is a lot of great information here, so as someone who used and sometimes every now and then does website design for a living, I'll add my 2 cents by talking about my experiences.. I used to hand-code every website I used to build, but these days it simply is too expensive for me to do that and takes too much time. I am a wordpress website builder, have been doing it for at least the last 5 years. There are many great features about Wordpress, the best is that it is free and there are a mountain of YouTube videos that will give you ample instruction of use the backend and how
  6. I use it and find it useful. There is actually an addon you can get to use with Microsoft word. If you use the free website version you can actually load a document into it you don't just have to load a chunk of text.
  7. The book I'm writing has a developing love story, but I wouldn't say it's the main plot
  8. As I see my book like a movie, music definitely helps as it is like the score or soundtrack to the movie I'm seeing, inspiring scenes and character interaction. I built a whole play list on YouTube that I close my eyes and listen to and just see what is created in my mind.
  9. @Jeff Potts was just pointing out that someone already set up a DIscord server for this website/forum and it already running and being used by a select few
  10. Here is an updated link, but it may expire again at some point, not sure how long they last https://discord.gg/PEntdyQm
  11. I second the discord channel, I am already part of it and have discord open most of the time
  12. At the school I work at, it is the start of a new term and during morning devotions they were asking people to write down people or things they wanted prayer for so I put down this request, so lots of extra people are praying now
  13. I have talked to many people who have had real life angelic experiences, although they didn't know until afterwards, but even the Bible says in Hebrews 13:2 "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it."
  14. When I was learning how to edit, I found the free editor on the Pro Writing Aid website helped to show me issues with my writing such as grammar, punctuation, spelling, style and passive verbs. Using this tool helped to teach me what to look for when I was reading back through my work when I wasn't using that aid to help me.
  15. These funnies remind me of a story called Pastor vs. Choir Director Church feuds are not uncommon, especially among cliques in the congregation. But when the pastor and choir director get into it, stand aside. One week our preacher preached on commitment, and how we should dedicate ourselves to service. The director then led the choir in singing, 'I Shall Not Be Moved.' The next Sunday, the preacher preached on giving and how we should gladly give to the work of the Lord. The choir director then led the song, 'Jesus Paid It All.' The next Sund
  16. Several years ago I had started writing my book out of necessity as the story was literally playing itself out in my head every night before I went to bed and so the only way to get sleep was to write the story down that was in my head. After 130 pages I took a break and after several years of not thinking about, last year around September 2020 I suddenly had a resurgence and desire to write my book. My biggest problem was that I had no friends online or in real life and I needed to find out if the story I had written several years ago was any good and if I should continue. Even after writing
  17. I think another way we portray a strong Christian is similar to real life in showing how they act or react to hardship, when they are squeezed does their faith rear up or fall flat. Another thing you could show is what do they do in private when no one else is watching but God, for example, do they grumble about people wronging them or do they pray for them. I don't think it's showing any one things, but there have been a lot of good answers and I think to portray a strong Christian through writing would mean showing many facets of their life including priorities of relationships and obedience
  18. We are disadvantaged as Christians because everything in the world by default is against what we stand for because of the inherent sinful nature, they will always be against what we stand for because holiness only shines a light on all the dark places they want to keep hidden. For instance it is only the revered names of God and Jesus Christ that are used as curse words, no other religious references are used in such a foul way. The world rarely says what it means, let alone the truth. The normal mindset of our sinful self is to be deceptive by nature so we shouldn't
  19. I think this has a lot to do with a lack of discipleship. Well at least a lot of churches in Australia focus on people hearing the Gospel and coming to salvation, but Jesus told us to go make disciples, not converts. There is simply not enough follow through and though people are told to read their Bible and pray, that leaves them searching for more spiritual guidance then they can find in a Sunday morning sermon or weekly Bible study. There should be more guidance from the person who helped bring them to the point where they were ready to make a decision. Say a child is adopted i
  20. It's so weird, in Australia, Father's day isn't until the first Sunday in September
  21. One of my normal jobs is as an IT Support person at a school.... I often see the students computers through classroom management software and watching write makes me wonder what has happened to education. Most of them can't spell without the help of Microsoft Word and during one story a boy wrote about calling the police by calling 911 ... which may not seem strange except that in Australia we call 000
  22. If you haven't heard of it, Pro Writing Aid is also a very helpful tool, you can even get a download addon to work inside microsoft word
  23. This reminds me of Moses' interaction with Pharaoh Exodus 7:10-12 where Aaron threw his rod on the ground and it became a snake then the sorcerers of pharaoh did the same thing through their "sacred arts" and I have heard a theory that maybe the 'gods' of mankind (greek, norse, egyptian) were originally Nephilim and did have some power of their own before being killed and their history turned into myths and legends. I have no idea if that is true, but in regards to fantasy writing it doesn't mean it is far-fetched ideas as the only truth we can truly be certain of is that God is all powerful a
  24. In church on Sunday, the pastor was talking about Jesus interactions with people. How with all the questions directly asked of him, why he only answered a few directly but the rest he used either a parable or story as the answer or fired back another question instead of an answer causing the people to think about what Jesus had said. It seems that leaving the question unanswered may get the reader thinking about the very thoughts and comments people have made in this thread... and maybe that is a good point and the best outcome, maybe their search for such an answer could open them
