  1. So, I've been successfully writing by getting up early in the morning. It's when I usually have my quiet time, until I found myself unable to get up when the alarm went off (slept through it constantly). When I decided to switch things up and try writing in the mornings, my quiet time all but stopped completely. I've felt empty and longing for that time with God ... But early mornings is the only time I get alone.

I think it's more important for my kids to see me buried in the Word than glued to my computer screen, so I'd like to keep the early mornings for writing, and just layer in the quiet time at a certain time of day when the kids are up. Maybe while they're eating breakfast.

      Amen! 👍

  2. As far as fiction, I've had a handful of short stories published, but no novels.
  3. I'm writing again. Oh my gosh, I'm writing. It's happening. It's been so long. Two mornings in a row. That may not sound like much, but it's a massive breakthrough for me.

Gonna go now. More words to put down.

      Congratulations!!!! That's a great feeling!

  4. After reading an inspiring post by Nora Roberts about writing, I decided today I would Mae writing happen, even if my kids are bored, even if the sunshine is calling my name, even if the dishes need washing, and even if my brain isn't working.

So I booted up my computer, announced to my kids I would be out of pocket for two hours with the exception of basic needs, and got ready to type.

An hour later, my computer is still installing an update, and is only 8% complete.

    🤪

  5. I just subscribed to several of these! Thanks!
  6. I'm a homeschool mom of two! Hi!! I've had a terrible time trying to get up early (depression and restless sleep), but this works well for me, too, because my brain hasn't started focusing on the tasks for the day. No one needs me yet because they're still asleep. It's like my little world has been paused, and it's the perfect time to focus on writing. This has never occurred to me ... and it hit me hard. I know God gave us gifts and expects us to use them, but I never thought about him expecting an account of what we did with them. I definitely need to take this into perspective.
  7. Hi! I listen to podcasts a lot, while cleaning house, cooking, going for a walk, etc. Here are my 3 favorites that I highly recommend if any of you are interested! 8. I wonder how quickly if go broke ... 🤪 Just kidding. I mean, you gotta do what you gotta do to keep momentum! I just haven't found what keeps me consistently motivated. I wrote alllllll the time when it was just for me. So. Many. Words. But when I decided I wanted to get published one day, I was so stricken with fear. Little by little, the Niagra Falls of words turned into the Sahara Desert. 😳 I can't fool myself into thinking that I'm only writing for myself now. I don't know how to get back into that comfort zone that really stroked the muse. God forces us out of our comfort zone when it's time to grow ... But ... It's cold and scary out here ... And the comfort zone is so warm and cozy ...
  9. Welp ... At least you're in good company here. 👍
  10. Thank you! So happy to be greeted with such warmth here! I feel like I belong. ❤️
  11. Thanks, Lynn! I'm amazed already at what I've found here, and I've only just joined today!
  12. Oh wow!!! I didn't know that!! I could just hug you ... Thank you!! I'm going to check that out right now. Thank you so much!! 🤗
  13. Hi, fellow homeschool parent!! It actually is very helpful and comforting to know I'm not alone in this ... I tend to think that published novelists have something I don't ... A magic pen that I haven't found yet, you know? Regarding the instant gratification ... This is why I loooove writing short stories so much. It's so satisfying. I write the whole thing in one sitting. Novels are so much harder. I'm working on seeing novels as just a series of interconnected short stories, and that has helped my perspective tremendously. This week I set writing goals for myself ... And I have yet to even BEGIN the first one. 😔 It feels embarrassing, even though I'm the only one that even knew about them! Honestly, that's why I joined this website today ... I'm sick of being alone in this.
  14. Accountability partners are a major motivator for me, but they're hard to come by. I don't need a critique partner or anything ... Just someone to set goals and work at them, alongside me, you know? My current story I'm plotting is a middle grade fantasy. What do you write?
  15. This is reasonable ... At least, that's what logic tells me. Then when it comes down to it, I'm like, "Gasp!! What have I done? This is an unreasonable expectation!" And my willpower wilts. I've enjoyed using NaNoWriMo's site for tracking wordcount. I think it has a goal-setter, too. 🤔
  16. If I'm being paid for a gig, I give it my best and never miss a deadline. I mean, if I don't make deadlines, I lose clients. BAM! Instant consequence. If it's working on my own fiction, for the life of me I can't seem to find the accountability I need. I RARELY meet my writing goals. I don't even know what works for me anymore. Any advice? What do you guys do?
  17. Nice to meet you too!! 🤗
  18. I welcome! Hope you find everything you need here. 🤗
  19. I didn't realize this website had so much to offer ... And it's so alive and active! The more I dig around, the more wonderful things/people I discover. ❤️
