 Don't Quit Waiting On God

1 Kings 19:1-4 NLT

19 When Ahab got home, he told Jezebel everything Elijah had done, including the way he had killed all the prophets of Baal. 2 So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah: "May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you just as you killed them." 3 Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there.

Elijah, by the Spirit of God, accomplished a notable task for God. He demonstrated God's raw power before the Israelites, hence turning their heart back to the true God. With this great accomplishment by God through Elijah, we see an unfortunate downward plunge into fear and despair in God's servant (Elijah). What could have caused this? How did he suddenly plunge downwards from the place of faith, boldness, and unto fear and despair?

Scripture says, when Ahab got home, he told Jezebel everything Elijah had done, including how he had killed all the prophets of Baal. So, Jezebel sent this message to Elijah: "May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you just as you killed them." On hearing this, Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there.

Fear gripped the heart of God's servant when he shifted his focus from God to the words of Jezebel. A look away from Jesus to your challenges or men's opinion causes fear and despair to overwhelm us. A continuous, intense, in-depth look at Jesus at all times keeps you ever bold, confident, and wise. So, friends, don't quit waiting on God in prayer.

Even when God came to Elijah while he fled, he couldn't hear God's voice. When you allow into your heart news of unrest, fear, and worries, you cannot hear God. God wasn't found in the '… mighty windstorm' nor in the "…terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose," nor was He in the earthquake. Not even in the fire was the Lord found. Elijah only discovered God when the sound of a gentle whisper came.

Friends, be at rest; Then can you hear His voice. His peace is available for the many that will seek His face in prayer. Look away from your challenges and keep your heart and mind fixed on God. Don't quit waiting on God.

Prayer: Holy Father, keep me glued to Christ. Turn my eyes and my ears from vain things. Please open my eyes and ears to what you have done for me in Christ Jesus.
