The poem below, after musing about these
passages from the Scriptures:
Psalms 11:1, 7
1 In the Lord I take refuge. How then can
you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your
7 For the Lord is righteous, he loves
justice; upright men will see his face.
but those who hope in the Lord will
renew their strength. They will soar on
wings like eagles; they will run and not
grow weary, they will walk and not be
The eagle does not flee,
it circles on high,
eschewing the mountain
for currents of life.
To what altitude does
the enabled one soar?
To what it could not see,
where no earth distorts.
Its talons lay hold of,
after a bold dive,
swoop to--all so sudden,
Trust sways the same such way,
ascends b'yond our reach,
dives to the promises,
snatches the believed.
