About this blog

From www.elderburgess.com

Romans 8:28 KJV…And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.

If you ask someone if they have been called by God, their answer will undoubtedly be yes, absolutely. A big question however is, what have you been called to do?

In Genesis chapter 1, God used the word “called” 5 times in describing His creation and nothing has changed from what He called it. One of the most popular passages in the Old Testament that uses the word “called” is 2nd Chronicles 7:14 KJV…If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from the wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

The “Call” is pretty special to God because when the “Called” do what God asks them to do, He in turn does miraculous and remarkable things for them. Things they can never do for themselves.

The Apostle Paul writes to the people of Rome and begins chapter 1 verse 1 KJV…Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the Gospel of God. A servant yields their will to their master, only doing what their master requires of them. In return God calls Paul to be an apostle and separates him to follow without question the Gospel of His Son Jesus Christ.

To Paul in his writings, “called” means being summoned by God for a specific purpose. Now, before someone reading this decides God called me to create chaos…remember God Blesses the obedient but that Blessing has to do with your relationship to His Son Jesus Christ…not man.

In Romans 8:28, the context of what the Apostle Paul meant when he wrote God’s promise to use all things, the good bad and ugly (especially things we messed up} for good…but…it is a promise for only those who love God. And if you love God, there should be some evidence of a change from what you used to be. The good is those who conform to Christ.

You may be asking, Tom…is there any proof of this position you have taken? I believe so…The proof is found in the next verses 29 & 30…For who He did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30…Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them also justified: and whom he justified, them also he glorified.

The “Call” for us is giving the gift of Jesus Christ and His death on the cross to those who don’t know Him so they will have the assurance of eternal life when they have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. If someone is trying to turn what God’s Word say’s to what they want it to say, they should be reminded we have the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us every day of our life to God’s Truth.

Nothing in this life (and I do mean nothing) should stop you from reaching God’s promise in Romans 8:28…in spite of all of our good, bad and ugly, God will turn it and you around for His purpose. Having been one who should not be here today because of things I did, God’s Amazing Grace proved to me how Truly Amazing God is.

When God calls you, and He will…give Him your yes. Surrender your will to His. He will prove to you his promises are real if only you will believe.

Thank You Lord For Your Word

I Am Redeemed

Isaiah 43:10-11KJV…Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. 11…I, even I, am the Lord: and beside me there is no saviour. 12…I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God.   Isaiah Old Testament Book contains some of the m

With God Nothing Is Impossible

Luke 1:30-37 KJV And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. 31…And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son and shall call his name Jesus. 32…He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall unto him the throne of his father David. 33…And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34…Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know

Fear No Evil

1...The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2...He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me besides the still waters. 3...He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4...Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5...Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6.

Just For Me

For God So Loved Us John 3:16   Today in history is so personal for me. When I reflect on my life and all the stupid things I did, there are no words to adequately say what I want to say. Thank God for this song...   “Just For Me” by Donnie McClurkin What does the cross of Jesus mean? It's more than songs we sing,  Much more than that emblem on your chain But it means I'm free, from the chains of slavery And the blood that shed won't let my sins remain,  Upon the

Choose Wisely

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:14 KJV...   There is a scene in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade that was to me very powerful. A decision has to be made regarding a cup Jesus supposedly drank from. Indiana Jones and his fr

Contemplate

A dear friend and his wife sent me an e-mail in 2006 that is so powerful I have shared it at this time of year over the years. The things we see, are not always what they seem, which makes this so appropriate. Feel free to share it if you are led to do so.   Heavenly Father, help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night could be a single father who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few pre
