The Leaf in the Tree Hole

(look closely at the tree trunk.  Do you see it?  There is a hole with a leaf in it)   A thousand leaves near, beyond, ten thousand more, yet fallenness cannot dismiss the leaf in the tree hole. It is intact, stemmed, with color ordained, free from the vanishing, till time makes it fade.   It witnesses to me, this leaf in the hole, esconsed outside the kitchen, by the bay window. Leaf in the tree and I grafted-in, both it and I as if cleft of roc

Rest Echoes

(after reading Proverbs 10:16-17) The just leans to life in ev’ry work, word and wish. Follow in his wake! The careless crumbles, yet repentance makes new bricks. Pavement shows his heart. “Obey” is mouthing the Lord’s Word within the walk. Works pause, rest echoes.

This Year

(Pondering Hebrews 9:11 and 9:14)* This year, the browning of falling leaves brightens more, the lawn, pumpkin-spiced.   This year, dependence feels more freeing in this trust. Regrets dry, grace drops.   This year, shedding limbs are more harbingers of good than of avalanche.   This year, Advent shines, dispensing hope around sin, dancing through shadows.   If this year's foliage reminds of the good things

How Humbling

When Jesus came into the world, the Spirit still abode within the Virgin to be lamp and light for ten new toes.   What traits could Mary claim to have helped form the One who wrought with His own hands the universe? Without word, submission.   How humbling, then, that hearers and doers of the word are deemed greater for their affection for the Living Lord.* ____________ * Luke 11:27-28

Currents of Life

The poem below, after musing about these passages from the Scriptures:     Psalms 11:1, 7 1 In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain...?" 7 For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face. & Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. The eagle

End to End

When brooks are so clear, one sees the stones and surface, we touch, all, at once.   Likewise your grace, Lord, frees, end to end, the conscience,* awe gasps at fullness.   Brooks are far away yet echo “This is the day!” Our hearts and minds rest. __________ Hebrews 9:10; Hebrews 9:14

What Is Given Up

King Ahasuerus (Xerxes I) When blessing us, some sovereigns would yield up to half of their reign.* Yet, we have the right of an Esther beloved to ask for the fullness of the Kingdom of God.** King Herod Antipas When cursing us, some enthroned would give half of what they own.*** Yet, we have the right of a fervent John to immerse our hopes beyond martyrdom.**** The Prince of this World (Satan) When tempting Christ, the Deceiver would offer up the kingdoms

Wider Shores

I was grafted-in, foreign, wild, outside the pact, in hopeless tangles. Mercy without end said the Son, who died for sin, for gentiles sojourned. For a kin God fought, folded out his hand of grace, scooped up the fragile. Abraham's God mine, it means more to count the stars, sands make wider shores.

Cosmic Tilt

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law ~ Romans 13:8 (KJV)   Owe no one nothing save for to love, by showing mercy, by being just. The curse of fathers fall not on us, under the government of God's own Son.   Our validation, secured by Blood shed at Calvary on the Lamb's Cross. While violent men clamored for more, Heaven fought valiantly with spiritual swords.   One Bod

Hope for the Still Soul

(Gleanings from reading 1 CHRONICLES 17:25-27, PSALMS 27:13, and JOHN 14:1-4)   Lord, I have courage, for You say You will house me within your Heaven.   I am bold to pray, for this blessed, eternal good You will oversee.   I would have crumbled unless living in your land then and now had stirred up hope.     What You bless remains, what You see, is, and is true, what You bless stays so.    ,

Albino Leaves

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord (KJV – 2 Corinthians 5:8). And now?   A Better Resurrection is pending.   Albino leaves snowflaking the woods, done defying decay, stems’ only hooves, allude to a judgement before we all bow. The green if remembered shall later regrow. Absent of color, once possessed good, now without preservation, unjarred in the woods

Brace, My Soul

Brace, my soul, for landing this is not dream nor lore, for you shall awake on grace fields if not gone to our Lord, where yet there is a harvest, there’s work for your blessed sleep. In trust we repose for sound rest, in confidence we reap.   Believe, with each step passing amongst the wheat and tare, for mercy calls for waiting for God to choose and share. Thus marvel that His coming awaits changing hearts to care, that

Grace that Flows

After reading Hebrews 2:9-10: 9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. 10 In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. 11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy ar

All Her Ruins

Isaiah 51:3 (NIV) “The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ God's healing for His children is as all-encompassing as salvation itself.   This healing is for the whole remnant of believing Israel, the Church, the believer.   This can have a life-
