Blog Witchtok and the rise of the occult

This is something new that I have recently discovered that I think is something the church needs to pay more attention to. I was having a conversation with a family member recently about my views and beliefs, and she mentioned in passing that she doesn't believe in Jesus or follow Him but instead is involved in something she referred to as 'benevolent wicca'. This got my attention. I have heard talk about the emergence of the occult in many parts of the country, but it has never really come on the radar for me until we had this conversation.

So, I began to think about all of this, and then I visited a friend's home, and His house is decorated with all sorts of Harry Potter inspired themes. He has young children, and then the lights came on for me. I wondered 'how much has books and movies like Harry Potter influenced young people's thinking about witchcraft, the occult, and magic in general? So I did a google search and discovered that these books and movies have had a very strong influence, especially over millennials, who no longer see 'magic' and 'sorcery' as evil, but have become desensitized to it, and many have embraced it as a form of 'personal empowerment' and as an alternative to mainstream religion as a whole. That lead me to this unbelievable discovery. If you have not heard of this then google 'Witchtok'. Here is a quote from google Gemini about this subgroup found on tik tok

"WitchTok is a massive subculture on TikTok where creators share videos about modern witchcraft, magic, spirituality, spells, tarot, and crystals, offering education, community, and entertainment. It's a diverse space for both experienced practitioners and beginners ("baby witches") to learn, share practices, and connect, though it also faces issues with misinformation and commercialization. The trend involves everything from aesthetic witchy decor and DIY potions to deep discussions on Pagan traditions, attracting billions of views and creating a significant online spiritual community. "

There are literally billions of views, and as of this morning 9.3 million posts on this channel. UNBELEIVABLE!

This is not what I expected to find at all. This is shocking and I am still trying to wrap my head around this. What I think has happened is because mainstream media has produced all of these shows like harry potter, charmed, and Sabrina the teenage witch, this has made witchcraft and sorcery something that no longer viewed as something demonic or evil, and turned it into something that is harmless and ok to explore.

Hollywood has rebranded sorcery and magic for people into something that it is not, harmless! The internet has also created virtual spaces for people to gather and to share and this is also a problem. It's like a perfect storm, its happening under our noses, and worst of all, I hear very little talk about it. I only found it because I was curious and started searching to see if what I was wondering was true, and lo and behold, there is a ton of this stuff online. Let us remember this,

' For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim (household good luck images)..."

1 Samuel 15:23 AMPC

I'm going to pray about this and encourage anyone who reads this to do the same. I've said it before and I will say it again; our country needs a major revival if we are going to get things back on track. I think those of us in the Church are living in a bubble, and I don't think we really understand all that is happening around us sometimes. Now more than ever we need to the truth of the Gospel to become more mainstream, but it feels like our culture is losing its grip on the truth. This cannot be a good thing. We really need revival!

This has been around a long time, @JasonJ, and it is truly a subculture that has blown up into a culture. But if we criticize it, we are considered to violate their "freedom of religion." So, the church is wary of criticizing it, even though they are well aware of it.

Wicca is a sick religion invented by a creep named Gerald Gardiner. There's a church of Satan that has also been around for a number of years, founded, I think, by Anton Levon. Trust me, the occult explosion goes back a number of years, well beyond Aleister Crowley and Conley Hall.

And the church is an institution that just doesn't handle it well.

Man, you hit the nail on the head with that comment, I was telling a friend about this same thing I wrote about this morning, and he jumped all over me for being 'a conspiracy theorist' and for 'criticizing other people's beliefs'.

Our churches seem to want to avoid controversy rather than engage what we all know is not of God and is downright satanic. If we don't speak up about evil, then I don't think we are being faithful to our beliefs in my opinion. I don't think it is wise to argue with a fool, however. If we do, we invite a beating, and we run the risk of becoming like the fool! (from proverbs)

So I think we should look at how Paul handled these types of confrontations. I think we preach Christ, speak the Gospel, and display the light of the truth from it to oppose evil when we are confronted by it.

What is even more concerning to me (not to ignore the magnitude of what you mentioned) is how many professing Christians adopt pagan stuff out of ignorance. Yoga, pagan clothing and jewelry, etc. They think it is harmless and innocence, not realizing they may be inviting trouble. And yes, if you try to tell them, they are likely to call you crazy or accuse you of being from some crazy denomination or cult. Or just deride you for having position to having fun. Seriously people, this is a war. Not time to fraternize with the enemy.

Yeah you are right people are just so desensitized to some of this stuff because of our culture they think we are crazy. Imagine if people start taking the mark of the beast, and the culture reacts the same way saying we are nuts, that’s we must not want to feed our families , and our beliefs are just out of place in a world that is to Modern and technologically superior than our ancient bibles can inform. I think this very attitude is what we will face then also .

Imagine? You might not need that imagination very much longer... There are technologies being set up right now for that. Not that everyone involved knows what they are doing.

I Know! China already has the everything app that controls your ability to buy and sell based on your 'social points' a system that grades your obedience to the communist party rules. you lose a point if you jay walks, loose to many points and you can't do anything and its all tied to AI, government surveillance, and the everything app. Real crazy stuff. i can see people agreeing to that sort of thing here, we compromise freedom for 'security' on a regular basis already. The technology that will make the mark of the beast a reality is emerging, the only thing that we have not seen yet is who the 'man of lawlessness' will be. I think if we enter into another great worldwide conflict, he will emerge at the end to bring peace to the world and usher in the end time's tribulation. Honestly, i think we are very near to the end now, people just are in denial about it.

Some pre-tribers don't think we'll be here for that part, but I find that unlikely.
It wouldn't take long, for sure. Just look how drastically the world changed in 2020.

I agree completely, things are moving quickly now, and a lot of things are happening without much fanfare or notice by most. People are plugged into the news and the internet, but unplugged from the communities they live in. The emergence of the occult, witchcraft, and things of that nature have crept in without so much of a peep from the media. I'm not a fear monger, but I think we are distracted from many things that are taking place in our world, things that if people knew would be outraged or would at least speak out, but maybe not. I think one of our biggest problems in our country is we are all so busy with our day to day lives, we don't pay enough attention to what is going on around us in our communities, our nation, and the world. We are busy going to soccer games, and watching football, and working to pay attention to what is going on in Sudan, in China, and even Mexico. I think most of us have decided that is the governments business, so we will do our own thing. Unless something happens that affects our wallets, most people just don't seem to care enough. Sad but true.

People from my neighborhood were caught up in wicca, which was first introduced as white magic, and usually had the substance and sexual elements.
Life rains and shines on each of us and eventually they paid attention when I would say that I would bring their difficulties to prayer. And when they would see God bring me through extreme situations, and I wasn't panicing.
Few will find the path. Lord, help me be where You chose for greatest affect!

this whole issue is really something that flies under the radar, I have a friend who told me that on the dark web there is an enormous amount of this type of stuff out there, something I hadn't even heard of or considered. But the dark web is the truly a dark place, and im taking his word for it but Im sure that is where some of the sickest and darkest of human depravity can be found. Again Lord have mercy on us!

Ever once in awhile, things sneak into the news from that realm, especially during wars and such when stuff gets uncovered, that's like, what? How can any living thing be so evil? But then again, that sort of thing comes from the darkness and death of evil.
