"This world is not my home, I'm just a pass'n through, my treasures are laid up, somewhere beyond the blue. The angles beckon me from heaven's open door, and I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
Oh, Lord you know, I have no friend like you, if heaven's not my home, then Lord, what will I do?"
We often sing this song in church. But do we really listen to the words. "This world is not my home..." We, as christians, understand these words. We know there is a better place for us. Christ left us with the hope that he would return when he said, "..I go to prepare a place for you.." -John 14:2 We believe we have another home when we leave this world because we have faith in our Lord. But there are those who do not know what will happen when death comes calling.
The Lord said, "If you love me, keep my commandments." He left nothing to question. The responsibility is on us to study the Bible and know what it is God expects from us. We have to be seekers.
Each day we are tested, by satan, to see if we will fail God. Satan is actively setting traps and obstacles for us. He wants us to fail.
It's not enough to pray. It's not enough to admit to knowing God. It's not enough to attend church on Sunday morning. We cannot pick one thing that will insure our inheritance from God. There are many things to take into consideration. Too many to simply skim over a few verses in the Bible and be satisfied that you've studied. Or a quick prayer thanking God for yet another day.
You go to church on Sunday mornings to make an appearance, then when amen is said and the doors fly open, you fall right back into the daily routines of sin. You are only fooling yourself.
You must be committed to giving yourself to God. Because when this world is over, where will your home be?
