Years ago I answered a challenge issued buy a secular horror magazine to write the most offensive story possible. They said there was no way anyone could offend them. So I set out to write a story that would make people think twice about abortion and that did the ticket. They were so offended they didn't print it and I found myself with a lot of fall out to deal with.
Well, I re-wrote it into the story it is today. I've sent it a couple of other places and had it quickly returned. It did appear in Watcher Magazine on Mr. Otis's forum, but it was written for a secular audience to read and consider and I always wanted to see it in such a place. I told God I would send it one more time and if it came back I would have to admit that maybe it wasn't such a cool story and to just knock it off.
All that to say "Bless the Children" will be appearing in AlienSkin Magazine for their Dec/Jan issue. It's a secular online horror magazine which, frankly, not all of you should visit. But it's also a paying market and they have excellent articles and resources on writing fanatasy and horror. (alienskinmag.com)
And I am pleased as punch.

Well done Merry. Don't be offended if I fight shy of visiting the magazine - my imagination is a rather effective visualising tool.

That's one heck of a story Merry. I don't think I'll be reading it to the grand children just yet though.

Naw...one of the reason's I wrote Doc Dilly and Mike Malone is so I'd have something I could actually read to my classes...

Merry, Congratulations.
Sometimes I think stories like this make a stronger impact than stories that are all sweetness. I know there are two kinds of audiences ... but my heart aches for folks on the fringes of normal society.
Great story.
Blessings, Francine

Hey thanks! I know this little story has had the effect of making people think twice about abortion. So I'm excited about having more secular folks read it!

Hey Merry,
Someday when it's famous, maybe you'll let me write the screenplay . . .
When does it come out?
Merry

The December/January issue. I'll zap up a link whn it does. And yeah, Hollywood,...you'd better write that screenplay. (New name: Doc 'Hollywood' Rita...heh-heh...)

Doc Hollywood . . . hey I like it. Maybe I'll put that under my screen name. Wouldn't it make a powerful film?

Naw, I sent it, but they sent it back right away. They aren't 'pro-abortion' it's just such a weird story...it needs a 'special place'....heh-heh....

Great work Merry, you've done exceptionally well to get published!
Is there any chance of reading it (can't get the magazine here and your website links don't work at the moment)
Thanks

Hmmm...thanks for letting me know about the links! Chris may have been updating for me at the time and I know it doesn't work well in Mozilla. But, it comes out in December so I'll post a link then. Thanks!

AWESOME story! i just finished reading it on your site and was really blown away. It is powerful and thought provoking. I may share it with some of the high school kids in my youth group - it makes an awesome point in a unique way.
Congrats on the publication, I pray that it changes the lives of those who read it.
Cheers, and keep writing!

What do you know? The awesomeness that is FireFox isn't compatible with either yours or Azariah's websites. Major bummer. I used IE and everything's okay (although IE is rubbish).
I just read it. You have a great writing voice. I'm not sure I understand what's exactly going on. Aborted babies being raised by other 'aborted' people in the Sewers? Still a very good read, quite restrained in the shock value (while still getting the point across that abortion is a crime).
Great work Merry!
