Hey guys
I've been looking at "lu lu " off and on for quite some time. It looks ok, but I'm wondering, HOW on earth would I promote my book?? So, anyone out there who has had success with lu lu ? and if so, HOW? Are you actually seeing a profit? Is it safe/wise? Please share... I have ideas of putting together short stories for kids from some of the history of where I live. But I'd need pictures... do I take the pics? or what? I can't draw....so that limits me.

thanks for input

I've seen some people use Lulu and it looks good (apart from the hideous cover art they present you with). I'm not sure how you go about promoting it though.

Marketing and promotion is the BIG question no matter how you decide you want to be published. Even if you get a big house interested in publshing your book, generally speaking, it will only sell as well as your marketing efforts.

Fortunately, there are many things you can do to promote your book that are low-cost, and many of are even free. I've listed a few books on book promotion here: http://www.walkingbarefoot.com/writers/index.html

HI
I want to thank you for your input. I actually bookmarked YOUR site a while back and pointed my minister-hubby to it... he doesn't pastor a church ( not yet ) but is a licensed minister.. we are very active in our church...I have felt like a baby bird that got THROWN, not gently pushed out of the nest as of late.. :) but it's all good and i'm growing spiritually and I'm inspired as well..
THANKS again, I will be visiting your recommendations!!

God Bless!!

Thought I'd bring this back up and just continue the question: Have you had any experience with Lulu? If so, how did it go?

The books I did with Lulu have been great. Of course compaered to Publish America, it doesn't take much to be better. I will say this much, the two books printed by Lightning source are maybe half as nice as what Lulu printed for me. (I got those from B&N as replacement from my own stock.) My royalty I set myself.

I am toying with the idea of going ahead and globalizing my second Lulu book, since the other one actually is selling an occasional copy. The alternative is to wait and see if an agent picks up my latest one, and wants the other two as well.

Pricewise, it beats PA, but I am my own warehouse and shipper, in addition to being the seller. If you believe in your work enough to offer to buy back unsold copies as long as they are not damaged in the store, more stores will carry those than PA books. Again more is relative, since not many want anything to do with PA. I don't blame them.

David,
I don't know if you remember me, but I am glad to see "faces" that I know here. I recently stumbled onto this site.

After my experience with PA (which I posted on the PA thread here), I have also grown curious about Lula, I was thinking about making Chance Encounters an e-book with Lula until I find out if I can get a PA release. E-books rights were not exclusive to PA when I signed my 1st contract. That way, I won't have to completely redo my web site, either.
