The CW Flash Fiction Contest is a three-way tie, and we need your help to decide the final winner! The run-off poll will close automatically three days from this announcement post. Take the poll now and vote for your favorite! :)
The contenders are:
Entry #1
Anxiety gripped his heart as he pounded away on the keys. How could they ask something like this? Impossible! It was simply impossible! Cruel. That was all he could think of to describe them.
The task came to his attention early that morning. Simple, so he thought. It wasn’t until he was nearly finished that he realized he broke the first rule. Fear swept over him. His mouth was dry and his heart pounded. Passed it? When did that happen?
He started again. Surely this would work now. Yes! It was! 95 words at last.
Entry #3
The mice took a seminar on diversity and toleration. Afterwards, a cat moved in among them. One young mouse opposed letting her remain, on the grounds that cats eat mice but he was shouted down and made to take a class on the oppression of cats, showing how unfairly rodents had treated felines throughout history because of the ‘alternative appetite’ situation. After that the young mouse kept silence. So did all his relations. When they did finally decide to protest against being eaten, there were too few of them left to make a difference.
Entry #9
Walking into McDonald’s, she is handed a tract.
“God bless!” She pries her hand loose from her daughter’s to reach out for the tract as her son spits up on her again.
“Thanks…” She attempts to wipe off her shirt with the tract and places the order.
“$5.62”
She reaches for her wallet and squelches the urge to scream. She had forgotten it when Jake threw up the second time.
The cashier rolls his eyes. Shamed, she turns away.
This day is hell.
A woman behind her reaches around and pays the bill.
“God bless.”
