How do you get the majority of your writing ideas?

Wow Bekka--tough question. I guess most of my ideas wiggle into my brain from my right ear . . . lol. Actually I get ideas from research almost as much as anything. Research is the best idea germinater. I just start poking around about any subject and ideas start flying at warp speed. I also gets ideas from actual life, the Bible and talking to myself. Hmmmmm. Maybe I'd better keep that last one under my hat.

I'm a Bible teacher, and my writing is basically at the service of that. So a lot of my ideas come from my time with the Lord in His Word. Also in prayer and worship.

I can be inspired by things, like life, or a sermon, or a song, or the occasional really good movie. They can put in me in the mood to write. But the actual ideas just suddenly appear at any time, sending me scrambling to find a pen and paper to write it down before it's gone!

I am inspired by many things, events of the day, conversations with others, recalling past experiences, but when I get up in the morning, I am usually good for several pages. Last week after that concert, I did a whole chapter in my rewrite. I find it hard to write when I am tired. I do often dream about my chapters before I write.

I get my ideas from TV, other people's works, and from my head.

It never ceases to amaze me how inspiration works. Mostly ideas just pop into my head, and more ideas pop in as I write about the first. I also get a lot of ideas from dreams.

I get quite a few ideas looking at photos or reading one or two words somewhere. The idea for my first novel came from a dream. Other than that, ideas pop into my head and if I'm quick enough, I don't let them escape out my left ear. lol :D

I have so many ideas that bump around in my head that I'm surprised any of them actually get to paper coherently . Well, maybe they don't...and I just think they do!:)

I was the one and only to pick news. I had to answer that way because my book began it's birth pangs with numerous news stories of illegal immigrants found dead in the canyons of Cochise County. And, while the creation of story comes from so many places, it's the hard, painful current issues facing today's society that God is using.

Cool poll ... just now saw it. Where have I been?

God absolutely gives me every intelligent Idea that ever enters my brain. I call myself Gods secretary because I never think about what I write I just sit down and it flows.

Well, i am inspired by my 5 sences, taste, touch, smell, sight, and hearing. Mostly God uses things I see, or things I hear to write for his glory. My favorite stories come from developing all these through imagery in my writing. But, the approach to how i write about the sences I experience range from ideas popping into my head to working on ideas for hours. The difference in each individual peice is what makes writing more interasting.

The question should have been multiple choice. Dreams. Current events and the news. The Bible. Other stories. Favorite TV shows and movies. Everyday life, particularly my own past. And ideas that pop into my head. I noticed no one said they stared at the blender!

By the same token, the alien names I invent--for people, planets and hardware--come from a variety of sources. Some characters have alterations of names of people I have known. Others come from place names. Sometimes an unusual letter combination in a word search puzzle becomes a character. :p The phone book is another good source, spelling names backward or inside-out.

I believe I get my ideas from God.
