Okay, I'm posting this information on NAVPress, but really I know very little about it. I haven't been to a conference in several years... I google, eavesdrop and beg information from writer friends. Actually, what I do is go to all the websites of the big conferences and read about the editors who are attending & what they might be looking for. This guy, Jeff Gerke, is the new editor of NavPress - he's coming from Strang.
I've googled Jeff and learned that he writes too -- as Jefferson Scott --and I'm including some links that will tell you more about him; one is an interview. So... do your own research, please. BTW, this address, phone # and such was at the bottom of the rejection email he so graciously sent me. :rolleyes: ~ JESS

P.S. I also found out that Jeff is from or lived in Texas for a period of time and that he's a Cowboy fan... LOL I tell you all this because I'm a firm believer that every little tidbit of info like this helps. I sold my romance when a writer friend learned her editor loved Elvis. My book was about an Elvis look-alike. See how I got pubbed?:rolleyes:

The following info was what was on the Glorieta Conference site...I don't think it's there anymore. And I'm not sure this is still valid. Jeff wasn't the editor when this was posted -- again, please do your own research..

We were looking at both stand-alones, and series – three to five books. Manuscript length: 75-110k words. Interested in talented first or second-time novelists.

* Contemporary mainstream (women's & men's)
* Suspense: thrillers and mysteries
* Humor: chick-lit, mom-lit, mid-life crisis
* Supernatural (angels & demons, etc.)
* Romance with a strong secondary focus (adventure, suspense)
* Biblical

Please tell me if I'm breaking any rules here... sometimes I get over-zealous when it comes to helping. :o

Jess:

Thanks so much for posting this. If they are still looking for these kinds of manuscripts, I just might query them.

I read the interview and was impressed by his desire to publish books that don't turn off secular readers but, instead, speak to them realistically. That's my goal as well.

Again, thanks so much.

Blessings, Francine

Thanks for the info!! When I was at Glorietta in 2004, I got to spend a bit of time with Jeff. He's a really nice guy and is truly interested in acquiring works that are innovative and different. I know he loves fantasy and sci-fi but I don't know if Nav is publishing that. Will have to send him a query. !thumbsup!

Here's the guidelines from NavPress's site:

Fiction:

A one-sentence summary of your story
Projected word count and completion date of the manuscript (we prefer full-length novels: 70,000–125,000+ words)
A 2–5-page synopsis of the story (please do give away how the book ends)
A 1–2-page summary of your bio/publishing history
The first 40–50 pages of the novel (double-spaced)
Note that we will not consider YA/youth fiction, short stories, novellas, horror, or pure romance
Notes:

We do not accept unsolicited manuscripts or proposals. Your project is considered “solicited” if you’ve been personally invited by a NavPress editor to submit it.
We recommend the book Write the Perfect Book Proposal by Jeff Herman & Deborah Adams.
We will NOT look at devotionals, children’s books or gift books.
