I have a new project to share.
PROJECT: A devotional book that takes encouraging themes or lines from country music songs and ties them to the Gospel in a practical and challenging way. Sort of like the "Andy Griffeth Bible Study" idea, except with country music.
I love to publish and this is a project that's been on my heart for years and I have never had time to write any of my ideas so I am looking for Christians writers who are also country music fans who can help with the project.
I have plans to include interviews with a few stars and produce a CD with songs to accompany the book as well.
Details, as to payment and copyright are still being thought through.
If interested, contact me.
Thanks
Jim

Jim,
LIke the idea a lot. Unfortunately I don't know much about Country Music.
However, I have an idea for a book series centered around Mayberry. Have you ever met Andy Griffith? My project is stalled for the moment because I can't seem to find out how to approach the owner to the rights to Mayberry.
Got any ideas?

Jim,
Sounds like a great idea. I can think of a few songs that fit right in. I'd be interested. In fact, in my recent book I went through all the hassle of getting the songwriters to give me their permission. I had nothing but trouble but it was a good learning experience. Some of the fees were outrageous for the small quote I was making. I was even trying to get Garth to approve a quote but unfortunately he was so busy with CMA, Walmart, etc that I never got through to him. They supposedly faxed him my materials so I was at least impressed I got that far. HA HA. Some quotes were small but I did not want to take a chance of getting a copyright infringement with anyone so I always checked first. Some songs had three music companies attached which became a bigger issue. So, things to keep in mind. Definitely interested if the correct permissions are being obtained.

There are so many country songs that inspire me. In fact just reading your post a song popped into my head that really speaks to me. In fact I'm so excited. I feel the urge to write and now have a direction to go in. Thank you for that!
You know my aunt died a week before Christmas and she was a big country music fan. I had the privlege of leading her to Christ a year ago. She very quickly fell deeply in Love with Jesus and the change in her life was remarkable. For her funeral she had already chosen a country song by Travis Tritt. It was called "Its a great Day to be Alive". There is a line in that song that says when I close my eyes I see the Son". I know she was smiling, tongue in cheek from Heaven. No question she was sending a message to those she'd left behind.
So yes I see where you are going with this, and think your really onto something. There is a treasure trove of Christian inspiration in country music.
Bless you and this project,
Heather

Maybe you should write your own country lyrics. Then you wont have to worry about copyrights.
