I don't know about you, but I seem to start the day very early; though I had said the day before that I'll give myself a few minutes more in my sleepy state. Yet, there seems to be an alarm in my head every morning.
Yes, another working day, another morning of marking homeschool work. I very quickly switch hats, and mark with a grin and an ache, wondering why an answer is missing; why they have not expanded on their understanding of tectonic plates! (Oh, save me, Lord!) All these before 7:30am.
My boys' breakfast question is usually the same. "Can we have toast rather than cereal?" And I answer, "Well, this is about the only time you drink milk! So have your bran flakes, please!"
After this we start school. I quickly drink on my coffee, while working on the computer. Five lessons a day for both my boys. We follow our timetable with passion. Whilst lessons are going on, I find myself floating around the school room, discussing topics, looking over their shoulders, ensuring I won't be deflated whilst marking.
While this is going on, our two little other kids ( 4 & 2 years old) wake up, and inbetween my husband who works from home, and myself, we grab them with love and get them ready for the day. Well, they are full of energy and mischief, hence, we start that grind where those extra hands are so awesomely needed.
I homeschool my four-year-old also; with letter and number magnets spattered on the fridge.
I am presently editing a Christian living book I have just finished writing.
I need an unlimited number of hands, to take care of the family; write; do what God has called us to do; and at times, just chill.
I previously thought my hands could and would indeed be able to cope. Now I know, my hands are so unable; so inadequate.
Then I received an insight into another pair of hands; I hadn't noticed those hands because I had been so busy trying to cope with life using my inadequate ones. I hadn't seen those hands because I had felt I could ignore here and there; work faster; work longer; work; work; work!
Phew! There is another way. I totally yield the power of my hands; ensuring that they become secondary to those ever powerful hands of God.
Now I have peace! As we wake up, we allow those hands to reign; do the marking, do the teaching; do the writing; take care of the little ones; bring the provision; build the ministry.
Don't get me wrong, my hands do work. Well, they receive command now, they have stopped being the originator, as the true originator has taken reign.
I always meditate on the Lord's prayer: Give us this day our daily bread (Matthew 6:11)
Since only His bread can fulfil all tasks, I need it without fail! His bread is indeed a hand that will suffice everything we will ever need to do.
