View Full Version : What? Another Hurricane?

Well, here I sit skirting the predicted path of yet another atmospheric monster. I hope Rita behaves herself. My little boys prayed in class this morning that she would be a 'good' hurricane. "Good hurricane" is defined as one that gets close enough to scare the adults into closing school for a day, but otherwise whirls harmlessly into nothingness. It happens occasionally. Like most folks I was a little concerned to see it possibly tracking back to New Orleans later this week. I hope not.

I did notice something interesting since Katrina...the Keys are actually being evacuated in earnest. The guys out on the islands, especially Key West, NEVER leave. Not so cocky this time out. You have to be a bit in awe and have a bit of respect for anything that can cover an entire state at one time. So I hope everything goes well, and yes, I'd loved to see the boys get their prayer answered.

The writer Desmond Bagley either got cued by the monotony or recurrence of these monstes that he wrote that classic book 'Wyatt's Hurricane' the kind of choreographed meter of how residents treat the carribean hurricanes with contempt even when they should be wiser.

The european colonists used to say there was no weather in East Africa; it either rains or does not rain. Teachers taught that the best aerial picture is that oscillating necklace of cloud that forms the ITCZ , the inter-tropical convergence zone. I, at 46 yrs, have never seen snow - hail yes - no hoar frost or chance ice. I have never encountered a wind bust beyond 25knots let alone seen a threatening twister.

As we watch the hurricane news on CNN , my children always ask me about hurricanes. Desmond Bagley comes in handy even though I had a stint studying aviation met. Guess they will never understand the power of these monsters unless I make a tour to fly them to the West Indies Kays any late half of the year season.

It is comfoting though that there are other hurricanes abundant in their church where African spiritual mystism blends all too well with the power of the Holy Spirit so visible during praise and worship.

'is the hurricane more powerfull than the Holy Spirit" my 12yr old daughter asked her mum mid Katrina brief..

'The diiference between a hurricane and the Holy Spirit is that a hurricane is destructive while the Holy Spirit is comforting and edifying" her Mum replied.

Amen.....can't say I envy anyone on the path of the next wave of any hurricane..

May the Lord keep His hand over you like an umbrella.

Just wanted to request prayer for my family down near Houston. Have a sister and her family, and parents northwest of the city. They are going to stay and ride out the storm. I'm pretty sure they are in a safe area and high enough, but just don't know what this one will do. Please pray for their protection. Thank you!
