I was just worndering if anyone has heard of Poetry.com? I sent in two poems, Changed and Rebirth to Poetry.com. I entered thier contest. With in 3 months of each other i recieve a letter for each poem saying I won the contest. And a Editors Award for both poems. It said my poems are gonna be published in a series of books all about inspirational poetry & on CD with music in the back ground. I got invitations to go to Florida & to get my chance to win 100,000 dollars. They sent my poems to me with a copyright on it and every thing. :o Well, then a year later I get an email from a Poetry Scam protection thing saying " Do Not send Poetry.com any of your material they are not ligit. They pretend to publish peoples work but don't do it. So now I'm all freaked out, cause my work could be floating around out there with someone elses name on it. Does anyone know of a real publisher I can submitt my poems and short stories to? I'd really appreciate it!

Yes, Poetry.com is a big scam, but don't feel bad, many of us have gone down that miserable road. Now you are a much wiser babe in Christ. As to the poetry submissions, there is a link to the paying poetry markets in the resource directory. Here it is so yo can check it out yourself.

http://www.christianwritersinfo.net/poetpaying.htm

You can also go to the library and get the latest issue of Poet Writers Market or look in the Christian Writers Market and also the Writers Market.

Hope this helps.

They sent me a picture of a trophy with my name on it. All I had to do was come on down to Florida and get it.

This was three years after I penned a little poem in a couple of minutes, just to see what they would do.

I still have the envelope with the window that shows my poem to every postal worker in American! Pretty neat, but not ligit.

Oh and dont forget that with only $699, one can attend the conferences held 2 times a year. Yeah right. I hate that I was fooled but I'm glad God showed me their true colors sooner than later.

ohhh! these guys make me so mad! unbeknownst to me, my daughter, who is 15 and still a young innocent to the ways of the world, sent them her poem. They sent her the same letter about her being a finalist and all, and her work would be published, etc etc. She was so proud of herself, now how do I tell her that this place probably didn't even read her work?? How do I let her down like this?

Alorralora,
I know exactly how your teen feels! I felt so proud too! Then when I realized it was a scam, I felt so stupid for being that nieve! But you gotta tell her the truth! Be honest! It's totally not Fair to let someone think they're out there when thier not. .When you tell her, replace the Bad Old Poetry.com with CW! She'll get help, critics, mabey even a publisher to sign her up! Go with it positively! Don't depress her anymore than you have to. I was her age 8 years ago and Let downs can either make you or break you! Let this make her stronger, wiser, and more careful about who she submitts to. Hope this was helpful! Praying it goes well!!!

I had never really heard of Poetry.com before CW, and today, Guess What??? I have a letter from them in my email requesting that I send in poems to their contest. :D

First off, the email was spam, and 2nd I don't have a clue how to write poetry :p

Just seemed weird that I got this from them. lol

I'm on their list too. Nice to know I'm in good company.
They told me I won, fortunately, I was to broke to send them any money.
Pray for them,I fear their souls are in danger.

You should contact your state's attorney general. They can shut them down fast.

Just a question - is there anyway these leeches can pick up our info from CW ? Its probably watertight but just checking.

You know... I had my thoughts about poetry.com so I sent them a test.
I did the same with the national library of photography.

Sent them a poem of 3 lines that made absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Something about a peeking chicken, elephants and gravy.
And guess what. They nominated me as exceptional poet of the year (or whatever their scam of the week was) and published me in their new anthology, of course.
The photography site is still trying to get me to accept my awards at their very expensive conventions for my blurry out of focus picture I took with a 20 dollar flashless digital camera.

You are filling their anthologies for them with your poems for no compensation so they can make millions off of their memorabilia.
