Hi, I am totally intimidated by this whole process, but I'm willing to jump in and give it a try.

For the last several years, I've wished I could write. I LOVE to read, especially historical fiction....Christian or secular (as long as it's not vulgar!) I also enjoy women's inspirational type stuff.

This summer, the idea of writing has just overwhelmed me, so I decided to to just give it a whirl!

I have NO IDEA where to get started, so that's why I'm here.

I did type out a few ideas for my "novel" yesterday and had a blast doing it. Then I went to Barnes and Noble and perused their books about writing.

So, I've practically written a novel here! I'm looking forward to getting to know you folks and learning some great things from you. :)

Um, where is that? Sorry for being so ignorant, but the only cure for ignorance is to ask, so I'm askin'! :)

Hi Jules,

Welcome to CW, and congrats on taking your first big step! I hope you'll love it here! :D

The resource directory is one of our newest features, and is located at http://4Believers.com/forums/links.

If you have any questions about the business, how to get started, or anything else writing-related, there is a wealth of information in the Open Forum (http://4Believers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4). It's searchable through either the main search box (top right of every page on this site - CW Forums) or by clicking here. If your question isn't already answered in the Open Forum, feel free to post it there.

If you have any questions on the features of this site (specifically), post them to the support forum (http://4Believers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7) for the quickest response.

Hope this helps! Again, welcome! !thumbsup!

Rebecca

Welcome Jules! You'll find the "Resource Directory" under "Tools," and it will help you immensely. This is a fabulous site to explore to your heart's content, so enjoy. If you're just beginning to write, why don't you try a short story or a journal to get your feet wet. Just a suggestion! Whatever you decide, I know you'll find plenty of help with these fantastic people. !thumbsup!

Hi Jules,
welcome aboard. This is a great site and everyone is helpful and kind.
When it comes to writing, just sit down and write. Thats what I do. Do not try to edit as you go, or you'll never get there. The editer inside interfers with the creation. Carry a notebook everywhere. You'll be surprised how often an idea comes along and it's very easy to forget if its not written down.

Hi Jules, First, a BBB [bone-bending bear hug] welcome to our house; middle of our five sons, Douglas Thomas, is top man of Missouri’s Charter Schools (KC side)….Daddy is an eighty-year-old retired educator, scientist (all areas), and jack-of-all-trades, so you can find help here. We even know the insides of many undeveloped holes in the Ozark Mountains. We will be glad to help make your stay here long, pleasant and fruitful. Paulajo

Well, Saturday I wrote the 1st 3 pages........just let the words flow....now for some bizarre reason I'm panicked. I don't know what to do next! Just keep writing, I guess? I guess I'm like a baby that wants somebody to cheer me along and make sure I'm doing it right. I have a friend who gave me lots of back copies of Christian Communicator so I'm going to look through those for advice.

And today, I'm going to go to the local univ. library to see if I can find some research on my "setting".

Thanks for all the encouraging words.

I'll probably just be a "lurker" for a while until I gain more confidence. :o

Panic? PANIC? Heck, what's a little panic amongst friends? I did the same thing the other day when I came to the end of a section I was just pleased as punch to write and then found myself facing a bridge passage...to write it or jump off it? I still haven't decided.....

You teach Jr. High? Wow, you ARE brave! I substituted in our middle school for about 3 days last year and it still haunts me... :D Not really...they're pretty good.

Hello and welcome! Writing is something that can really get in the blood, so proceed with caution!

!thumbsup!

... I LOVE to read, especially historical fiction....Christian or secular (as long as it's not vulgar!)....

At the risk of seeming to spam, I want to share a link. When I read this the first time, I was stunned at what could be done with Historical Fiction from a Christian point of view. This is set in the Roman Empire, so if you don't care for "Roman justice" skip it. Nothing graphic...

Anyway, this opened MY eyes up to what a good writer could do within the "Historical Fiction" framework.

Thanks so much, Bill. I'll be sure to check it out.

And yep, I'm loving my "writing adventure." It's so much fun to make the characters do whatever I want them to do.

In this first story I'm writing, it is definitely my intent to make folks know that GOD is what it's all about.......despite all the garbage life hands our way.

Thanks for the link.

Jules,

Welcome to the wonderful world of writing. And you're not the only one who feels like a baby who needs to be told they're doing it write. I question myself everyday. But there are some really wonderful people here, very talented and very helpful.

Pray and let God show you the way.
